In sad news, it looks like NWI - the studio behind Insurgency and Insurgency: Sandstorm - has been shut down by their owners, Embracer Group.  This has been confirmed by a LinkedIn post.

I wasn't really a fan of the direction Sandstorm had taken, but this is extremely sad news.

A War of a Madman's Making - a text-based war planning and political survival RPG

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

Wow that is kind of sad.  Never really played the game but shutdowns with no statements make me feel nervous about my games.

For a long time the original INSMOD was my most played game on Steam, eventually eclipsed by ARMA III and trailed in a distant third by RDR2 Online. I was happy for them when they managed to go from being a mod to a standalone game, but over time for me at least the games lost the charm and fun of the original mod and I drifted away from them. Sorry to see 'em get the axe though.
