Title: Wing Leader: Radios with a Vengeance
Post by: MengJiao on July 19, 2022, 12:19:00 PM
If you combine the Victories, Blitz and Legends bases and extensions to Wing Leader, you can have the French in Morane-Saulnier 406s with radios and Ground Control Interception intercept the Italians (as happened on June 15) who are in biplanes without radios.

For once, things work out and the French tally the Italian  CR 42 as they head down to escort the bombers.  So they will get a bounce out of the sun and well...we'll see what the dice have to say about that:

Nice.  I love this game.

It's pretty wild.  Never quite does what you would expect.  This time around, the Italians went low and lost 3 bombers to flak but hit the airfield target for 50% damage.  Not bad.  While the
highly advantaged Morane-Saulniers only shot down 2 Falcos.  I guess the French really needed Pierre le Gloan in his Dewoitien 520 to shoot down 5 attacking planes (as happened historically).

Yes this game is definitely wild.  Somehow combat feels just right and not random like a dice game.  I feel like I'm watching a movie when I calculate the combat odds in this game.  Not sure if I'm getting what I really mean across clearly but this game is good.

I know what you mean.  I think it is because combat in this game has so many asymmetric but easy-to-visualize stages: raiders vs defenders, alert vs not, vector vs escort or sweep, climbing diving, sun clouds, firepower, speed vs dogfight etc. etc. it does all form a cinematic set of images and pretty quickly too.  Also convincingly close to real battles.
