Synopsis
With the main Warsaw Pact effort taking place in Northern Germany, the task assigned to Soviet 8th Guards and 1st Guards Tank Armies is to keep US V and German III Corps busy, inflicting as much losses as possible and forcing NATO to commit reserves and reinforcements to the defense of Frankfurt.
NATO must stop or at least slow down the enemy advance, ensure no disruption to REFORGER operations and decide if US ground and air reinforcements should be used in CENTAG area, or diverted to help NORTHRAG defense. Taking the wrong choice could mean the fall of Frankfurt!

Bridges along the Fulda river are key points, as is the more southerly located infamous 'gap' .
