I've recently upgraded to the latest version of Evochron Mercenary so I'll definitely give that a bash too.

Since posting this I've been playing Evochron almost exclusively.  I found a great multiplayer server (Galactica I for any who may be interested) and I wish I'd joined in when I first bought the game.  Multiplayer is where it's at; your character, ship, inventory etc carries over from multiplayer to singleplayer seamlessly which is fantastic, and on the server there are always people willing to answer your questions or even to fly wingman for you on tough missions.  There's lots of consensual PvP too.  I'm having an absolute blast!
