US WW2 76mm Gun vs. German Armor

Why the large difference?  Was it the gun or the ammo used in the guns?

Why the large difference?  Was it the gun or the ammo used in the guns?

I think it had to with velocity. The 76mm had a higher velocity which increased its armor penetrating capability. The 75mm could penetrate 4 to 4.5 inches of armor while the higher velocity of the 76mm permitted penetration of up to 7 inches, important when facing panthers and tigers later in the war.
