I cannot wait for this. I finally played the original Mafia (remastered) last year and it became one of my favorite games of all time.

The original Mafia was outstanding. Great story. Well told. City was alive. Graphics were great for the time. Nice mission content. I think I've played it 3 or 4 times.

Second one wasn't too bad. I liked the era, but some of the missions were diabolical. Still well done.

God alone knows what they done with the 3rd one.

Looking forward to - hopefully - "going back to where it all began"...literally - what made the first one so damn good.

Thought of you when I saw the news

Loved the first and didn't do 2 or 3 - it wasn't going to get better - I'm looking forward to this although I'm unsure if a 19th century Sicily can match a vibrant 20th century 'New York' for atmosphere

^It was really more Chicago than New York...that would be the only thing that could have possibly made the original better.

Mafia also had the auto race which was one of the toughest levels I ever loved to death. I did not mind playing through it like 25 times to finally win.

I think the problem with Mafia III was that they went from scripted missions to a more sandbox approach with map sectors that you had to unlock and take over, similar to the Far Cry games.  It got really repetitive having to do what amounted the mission over and over again and then watch the exact same cutscene each time you took over a new location.

I hope the new one goes back to the same style of scripted missions from the first game.  I still love that shootout in the parking garage.

I was going to bring up that auto race. At first I was pissed off that I couldn't advance in the story but by the time I had gotten to be good enough to win it I was like screw the story, I want to do this race some more.

25 seems about right for the 1st breakthrough, but I eventually won it many times. I can still remember a lot of the details. You needed to take the lead on the long straightaway before a hairpin left turn into the woods....

I never did finish the game.
Things are more like they are now than they have ever been before.

The garage shoot out was an outstanding mission. But one of many in the game. Loved it. It's the only game I can go back to and forgive the graphics - just because the story and missions were so cool.

As for the 3rd, yeah - they relied on Open World for content, but forgot to put the content in. I think that's a problem with alot of open world games. They rely on the scale and forget how repetitive the game becomes.

Bugger. I'm going to play it again.

As for the 2nd - there's a really cool mission in it which links back to the first one.

You should. The whole thing from start to finish was amazing and the final scene was outstanding.

I still remember how cool the intro was as you flew into the game over the sea and into and around Lost Heaven

<<googles how to finish race mission after 50th attempt>>

uses cheat and wins with tears in his eyes

Gusington

I didn't cheat! If I can do it clean you can too. And I went on to finish the game in glory. The original Mafia is easily one of my top 25 games of all time.
