Found this very detailed US Army Medical Services study of ballistics and wounds in WWII.

A somewhat related 1979 report on stopping power of various small arms ammunition from the US Army Ballistics Research Lab (BRL) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Interesting "law enforcement" perspective on this report.
