Greetings all,
I stumbled upon the Grogheads a few months ago via a link to one of the podcasts. Since then, I've been listening to the podcasts (new episodes and checking out some of the back catalog). I'm a tabletop guy, and still relatively new to wargames. My preferences are the lighter fare (Wings of Glory, Memoir, etc) but especially Waro /Weuros (A Few Acres of Snow and Quartermaster General are two of my favorite games).
For the past five or six years I've been designing games. A year ago, my first wargame was signed by a publisher and should be released later this year or early next year. I'm really looking forward to that.
In the mean time, my current design focus is on a Waro that is centered on the Europe/Russia battle for influence over Eastern and Central Europe and the Caucasus post-Cold War. The theme ties in very closely with some of the discussion from Season 2, Episode 3 of the podcast. I'd love to get feedback from the community here about the design. What would be the best place to post and ask for some thoughts on the design?
Thanks!
David Thompson
welcome!

Welcome to Grogheads, David! O0
Glad you found us, David! Welcome!
Hidey-ho neigbor!
Welcome David. Glad to have you with us. How are the Brits treating you over there?

Depends on where he is, Sir S. Now, if he's up't north in my part of the world, he'll be fine :-)
Welcome David.
I work at RAF Molesworth, but live just outside of Cambridge. My family and I have been here for about a year and half, and we absolutely love it. Fantastic environment for a family, and a great launching point for vacationing in Europe.
There's also the added bonus of being part of the Cambridge-area game design and playtest community. It's a fantastic group that includes some fairly prominent designers from around the world (though, admittedly, there is more of a focus on board and cards games and not so much on wargames).
Welcome to the madhouse, David!
Welcome aboard, David!
Sounds like they are treating you OK over there David. Looks like there's still a little civilization left after all in the Mother Country.

Oh, it's pretty great here. Makes traveling to places like Essen a lot easier and cheaper!
The UK also has a pretty good gaming scene. I'm part of an awesome designer group in Cambridge, and we have some good Cons here - especially the upcoming UK Games Expo.
Welcome David. Always glad to see more table top folks. As for your about to be published game, can you share a title or any details? I understand if you can't but I'm always looking for new angles and you listed a few games as favorites that I have considered looking into (Quartermaster General being the top of the list).
And as mentioned above welcome to the madhouse :)

Wes, as fortune would have, my new game was just officially announced by Lock N Load Publishing on this thread on Grogheads (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=16533.0).
The game is called Platoon Command. As you can probably guess by the name, it's a skirmish-level game. However, the action is driven by a deck-building mechanic and area control. In the game you use cards to direct the movement of your platoon. Each of the cards corresponds to elements of the platoon, which are directly mapped to counters on a modular game board.
The game's campaign depicts the actions of rifle platoons within the 30th ID in Normandy during WW2, following in the footsteps of the 30th ID from D-Day to the Battle of Mortain.
Welcome, David. Your game looks great!
Thanks, Mirth - I'm very excited about it. It's been awesome to work with LnLP on it.

Sorry for the lag time on this response...I will have to check this out. You hit a lot of my bullet points with this one.
Glad to hear it, Wes. Let me know if you have any questions about the game. I'll be posting a design diary very soon.
