Thoughts on the upcoming Russian military maneuvers around the Baltic States and Konigsberg.
I like the theory that once the Russian troops move in to Belarus, they won't be leaving. Devious and believable, just like the last 300 years of Russian history.

Nyet, tovarisch.
Is that 'nyet' or 'not yet'?
My KGB handlers have told me I've said too much already.
I can get you some good intel on this. O0
you're a well known source of Imperialist disinformation

You want intel on Mirth? How about this: "He's a flight risk"
Does that mean he's a threat if we're flying over him or he's flying over us? ;D
It means don't sit next to him on an airplane if the flight is long enough for the bar cart to appear.

Not an easy feat. The Stache is wily.
"And then I'm going to come back here and drink a mug of vodka like it's Chiggy Von Stachetoffen's blood." -- mirth, giving heart to the newbies when they need a big win.
"Chiggy Von Stachetoffen"... Huh- someone else besides me actually remembers Space: Above and Beyond?
Kristen Cloke was super hot.

The War on the Rocks article is quite good. O0

QuoteThe three fake countries at the center of the Zapad-2017 drills, however, have taken on a virtual life of their own online. While it is not clear who is behind it, a clearly pro-Western satirical Twitter account issues regular announcements in the name of the Veishnoriya Ministry of Foreign Affairs and displays pictures of the fake country's passport, flag, national currency and other national symbols, all of them invented.
"We are deeply concerned about the concentration of Belarusian military equipment at the borders of Veishnoriya," reads one message posted by the nonexistent nation's Foreign Ministry. Others include a call for volunteers from "brotherly countries" to repel an invasion from the east and warnings that Veishnoriyans are "warlike beasts" who will not surrender.
Veishnoriya also has a lively account on Vkontakte, the Russian equivalent of Facebook, with posts of beautiful Veishnoriyan women and natives in what is said to be traditional Veishnoriyan clothing. It also has fierce supporters on Facebook, where one fan provided a tongue-in-cheek "historical note" about the nonexistent country's martial spirit: "Throughout its history, Veishnoriya hasn't lost a single war."

Heh 'warlike beasts'

Thanks for the link! I tend to follow WotR articles, but had missed that one, probably after having grown weary after all the er.. sensational articles about it. Maybe that's what the Beeb comment is about as well? It is indeed fascinating to find a well thought well written article nowadays.
Having said that; Go Veishnoriya! Never Surrender! :arr:

In another incident, General Serdyukov, head of VDV and architect of annexation of Crimea, has died in a traffic accident when moving between sites.

Source?
I can only find mentions of him breaking his spine and being severely injured. He probably won't be going anywhere soon, but he isn't dead according to those reports.

I think I know a couple of Russian pilots that are going to be flying a Border Post in Siberia from now on. :hide:
Accidents happen, and this wasn't very serious for the pilots.
Cold War accidents tended to be more costly, with Starfighters falling out of the sky like bricks for example.
Overshooting the runway is nowhere near as bad as those accidents during the Cold War, or even nowadays like the KC-130T crash in Mississippi in July.
From the extended clip it looks like they couldnt take off.

Fair point.
Used to be in Soviet Russia, KGB overshoots you if you overshoots runway. No more! Today you just get added to Anthony Weiner's 'Friends' list is all. Which is worse? :-\
Was that a second Backfire already, or third?
This is interesting. Not so much the capability, but that they'd reveal it in an exercise
