Does anyone know of any books that cover the transformation of Cargo/Oilers/Cruisers to CVEs?  Some schematics and images would be great, especially of the hanger deck.

Republic, I want to say that there was one by Donald McIntyre put out in England, maybe twenty years ago?

Try this website.  The staff at the Naval Historical Center may be able to provide references.  They have warehouses full of photos they may be able to post if you request.
