Just how big is online, er... "adult" business?
« on: April 07, 2012, 06:52:33 AM »
to quote the article...  "Ron Jeremy big"

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-04-05/online-porn-is-huge-dot-like-really-really-huge-dot-who-knew

Quote
According to this tool, the online porn kingpin Xvideos feeds up 4.4 billion page views per month. That’s about 10 times as many as the New York Times and three times as many as CNN.com. YouPorn—another site packed full of stimulating content—notches 2.1 billion page views per month. And while people spend a few minutes per day on news sites, they tend to spend 15 minutes or more on porn sites, which would seem to say something rather definitive about, er, male stamina.

yes, that's an article from BusinessWeek, who was trying to figure out just how big the online pr0n industry is

Are we considering branching out here?

My brother-in-law used to work for the main office of the cable tv company in Louisville, I seem to recall that it's called Insight.  Anyway, he was telling me about the company's revenue from porn.  I was gobsmacked.  The profits dwarfed anything else the cable company offered.  So I said to him:  "People do know that they can get porn for free on the internet, right?"

He had no response.  Clearly free porn doesn't stop people from renting it off of cable tv!!!

I can't tell you how I know this, but the cable stuff has NOTHING on the free stuff.  That is all.

There are three things in life I never pay for: sports tickets, porn and pencils.

I do pay for sports tickets and I rarely use pencils.

'Tis. The quote was coined by a slacker roommate of mine in college before the interwebs were a reality. His list would probably be longer these days, if he's still alive.

I won't pay for pr0n, but I'll pay for a Dixon Ticoderoga #3.  If you don't pay for pencils then you are probably using a crap OfficeMax brand.  And I spend more than 15 minutes with my pencil.   :)

^Amateur. Aficionados know that the Dixon Ticonderoga #3 has been totally outclassed by the Dixon Ticonderoga #6.

I won't pay for either.
