My 6.5 years old computer's 1.5 TB HDD finally died on me today.

About a month ago, Windows 7 chkdsk ran a few times in a row when booting and marked some bad sectors and I thought "Oh! Oh!". But then the HDD worked fine after that until today when Windows 7 got the BSOD over and over. chkdsk ran again and for some weird reason moved the default C drive with the OS on it to the F drive (changed drive letters!) and I've spent the last five hours trying to figure out why and how to fix it. Finally got the thing to boot with the right OS drive and still Windows 7 gets the BSOD and then finally I heard some clicking from the drive itself. I finally just gave up!

Going to purchase a 960 GB SSD tomorrow and start the lovely process of reinstalling Windows 7 64-bit and all the updates. Luckily I have a Norton Ghost backup from three weeks ago so at least I didn't lose much other than having to reinstall all programs and games from scratch including game licensing and all that.

This is really depressing as I was not planning to replace my i7-920 OC'd to 4 Ghz for another two years. At least I can take the new SSD (and the 120 GB SSD already installed) to my new computer whenever I do get one.
