Is it me? Game client timing out

So I am downloading the free-to-play Akaneiro game from American McGee. The game itself downloaded ok through the publisher's (Spicy Horse) client, but 'syncing' the game for the latest content constantly times out and the only way I am going to finish syncing it is by starting and restarting it, over and over. Is this a problem on my machine or a crappy game client?
