A War of a Madman's Making - a text-based war planning and political survival RPG

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.
- Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

Saw this in their newsletter yesterday along with a new 'Rise of Pirates' game.

Is there a Silent Depth 1 from Microprose?

We all remember the Microprose Silent Service games of course, which would be lite-sim by today's standards. Heck, I still have ACTUAL DREAMS occasionally about SS sub action like I'm playing one of those games.  :Dreamer: I mean I realize in the dream that this is like Silent Service, not like some other WW2 sub games. Weird, but true.

Probably. Man the reviews on that are dire! Hope the Microprose devs do a better job. (MP is developing the new game, not simply publishing it.)

I was about to say, I remember Silent Depth 1 being pretty subpar.

I hope they actually start releasing a little more of this torrent of games you're announcing. And that they have some quality control. At this point they seem to just be slapping their name on anything they can get their hands on.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope they're wildly successful. Some of the upcoming games I'm most excited about, like Task Force Admiral and Sea Power, are under their label. But I remind everyone again that the original Microprose was primarily developer. This new one is primarily a publisher who is putting the Microprose name on a bunch of games developed by others. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the new Microprose has yet released any games they've developed themselves. So I remain largely skeptical until I see more of a track record. And frankly every new project announced before more of the existing ones come to fruition make me a little more so with regard to their degree of quality control.

I looked a little more into this series.

Seems the first Silent Depth was rereleased as a mobile game in '16 and then got a very lightly supported PC port to steam in '18.

Developers, Codeknitters, look like they abandoned the game soon after and didn't communicate anything.

Codeknitters only had one PC release, the game in question, and a couple of other mobile only games.  They were self described as an App Developer.

This seems an odd IP to hang the Microprose name on.  Many in the game's audience said they'd been hired to work on Sea Power and shut their doors but I see no confirmation of that.

If Microprose scooped them up you'd think they'd have at least communicated they were working on a sequel for bigger studio.

It seems Tommo owns the Silent Service IP so that'd explain why Microprose just doesn't use that name.

Really curious on who's developing this and how much of it's actually connected to the first game.
