Looks like an earlier model. The turret with the quad 50 cal was omitted from later examples.

Oh, yes. Late in the war all sides were working on night fighters with primitive radar. There were all kinds of fascinating developments that evolved then.

I had a plastic model of a P-61.  Monogram I think it was.  All in black plastic.  It was the coolest thing to be had in 1965 or so.
Unfortunately it was destroyed in a fire during one of the wars between GI Joe and the Airfix people.
