The reason why the war began ?

Basic reasons.

Russia strengthens her position in the Far East after the Boxer rebellion which makes Japan a bit uncomfortable.

Because the Russians established their seaport in Vladivostok, and the Japanese saw that as a threat and had to protect its waters. Japan won the war. The whole world expected Russia to win, this in turn had resulted in contribution to the Russian Revolution of 1905.

Many Russians never even knew the commanders names or what they were fighting for.

The Russo Japanese war was a taste of what was to come for Europe in 1914-1918

Trench, barbed wire, electric wire, grenades, machines guns, powerful artillery,air balloons and bloody melee contributed to the deaths of Japanese (47,000-80,000) Russians (40,000-70,000)

Over 20,000 civilians also died, the Manchurians also acted as spies and much information was given to both sides during the war.

Port Arthur became the most fortified place on the planet and was deemed impossible to take, the Japanese soldier was willing and excited to try, the Russian soldier had guts and would fight to the death of a bayonet .. the Japanese soldier admired the Russian soldier and had great repect for them, the red cross would attend for both soldiers.

Artillery guns from the Russians ships also contributed to the attack on the flanks of the Japanese advance towards Port Arthur.
