I grew up watching Hogan's Heroes reruns and remember Richard Dawson fondly as Newkirk. He was also great in The Running Man as Killian (spoofing himself from Family Feud).

MSN had it as Breaking News this morning when I logged on. They mentioned him as being ,"Of Family Feud fame." I thought, "What a disservice!" No Hogan's Heroes?! Nothing about his movie credits?! Most especially, his masterful work on Match Game PM?!?!?!? A funny man who I always thought of as very cool. He will be missed.
Damn, I had forgot about Match Game. He was awesome on that too. It's a shame if folks only know him from Family Feud.
He was the main reason I watched "Hogan's Heroes" as a kid. He was always hilarious.
I have read that he very much wanted the Col. Hogan role and resented not getting it.

I always think of him as one of Hogan's Heros - the gameshow thing was always an afterthought..... That must be due to my age..... Some of the young shits at work never even heard of Hogan's Heros

Yeah, Newkirk was my favourite character too.
