Might work, especially since some realtor in Alexandria has "trademarked" some of the obvious possibilities (https://fansided.com/2020/07/13/realtor-trademarked-washington-team-names-ultimate-troll-job/). There is a name for people who do that, but it eludes me at the moment...
They could rename themselves the Washington Renegades. Wouldn't have to changed the emblem at all.
Red Tails would have been cool, imo. Honestly, it's more funny than anything that the team can't get any of the names the fans want because some random doofus trademarked them all before they did. It's a pretty laughable predicament through-and-through.
They should go any totally troll everyone and call the the Washington Squaws. Bet that domain is still available
Washington Wahoo's and use a fish emblem. Or Cleveland's mascot.
Washington Bullets
or
Washington Weasels
First for the average citizen.
Second for Congress.
Go 1812 on them. Washington redcoats
Washington Whiteskins
Wouldn't bother me.
Washington Minutemen
I honestly think they should just not pick a nickname. Call themselves the Washington DC football club. They can either use a stylized DC as their logo or keep the profile image and replace it with George Washington. Just put the numbers on the helmets if they don't to display the logo in that way.
That way the fans can call them whatever they want.
As a Cowboys fan I hate losing a bit of the history with our rivals here.
...
^Did you really just post that?
...
Alrighty then.
I understand the name, Washington Spineless Jellyfish was already taken by Congress.

Is this even legal? Can you trademark names you are definitely not using?
Back to topic;
What about Washington Greenskins and use an Orc as mascot?
Apparently it is legal. It's a practice known as "bad-faith trademark filing"-sometimes referred to as "trademark squatting." (https://www.uspto.gov/custom-page/inventors-eye-don-t-sit-and-wait-stopping-trademark-squatters) People do it mostly in hopes of making a person or company pay them big $$ to give it up.
Ugh.
Hopefully there will be legislation to deal with these sort of things just as it began for copyright trolling.
The guy who did it is apparently willing to give the trademarks up for free, so it sounds like he played himself more than anything.
Now sports reporters are saying bad news coming out about the Redskins.

Weird...wonder what it could be...
Pelosi will be playing as Quarterback. The huddles will be 30 min. long.

If even a fraction of this is true, then holy freaking cow, man. :o

...and now they are lawyering up

From what I was reading Washington's possibly about to face a sex trafficking scandal that may even involve Snyder.
Some Washington fans are actually happy about the possibility. Snyder hasn't exactly been a model owner for the franchise. They're hoping for an ouster.
Well Epstein's madame is in jail now and still alive last I heard. I'm sure a lot of people are shaking in their boots right now.
https://kdvr.com/news/national/report-redskins-become-washington-football-team/
Talk about a lack of imagination... ::)
Do I get a check from Dan Snyder for the idea?
Heck, they are even using the number on the helmet.
I wonder if they're holding out for a corporate sponsorship team name contract offer. As precedent think of all the stadiums that had geographic or location names, but are now [insert corporation name here] field / stadium. So, how about the Washington FedExers? Although, Washington Ex-Feds might be more appropriate.
Or if the price is too high, they could have a joint sponsorship. The Washington Fed-UPS
My vote is for, "The Washington Redskin-Potatoes". That way they won't have to change anything. Just add a potato. :bd: They can even keep the logo, just give the Disenfranchised Native American a potato in his mouth. Too easy for Washington D.C. certainly without a Congressional Committee to study the issue for a decade or two, but who gets offended by potatoes?
They might as well get rid of the "Washington" while they're at it because they'll be coming for him too. :uglystupid2:
As an Aussie that follows US Football, I really loved the Redskin logo. It captures the imagination. The fact that people barrack for them, should have alerted them to the fact that the team was proud of the Indian Warriors and their people. Not the opposite.
In the mean time here in Australia.
Our "Captain Cook" hotel got it's name changed by the new owners to "the captain".
Our "Coon Cheese" brand is having it's name changed.

I lol'd WAY too hard at that! :notworthy:
As things stand, though, what even are they going to be? The Washington Washingtons??
