My favorite baseball memories are of Mr. Gibson pitching for the Cardinals.

Big, Bad Bob Gibson was so dominant that they lowered the pitchers mound.  One of the few players in pro sports history to have the field changed because he was so good.

Re "Big, Bad Bob Gibson was so dominant that they lowered the pitchers mound.  One of the few players in pro sports history to have the field changed because he was so good."  Bit of an overstatement there.  It wasn't JUST Gibson.  See "https://www.mlb.com/cut4/why-was-the-mound-lowered-in-1968/c-158689966."

I personally thought at the time that it was primarily due to the fear of a batting champion having a sub .300 average.  Remember this was prior to the analytical revolution in baseball and a .300 batting average was still almost universally thought to be the standard denoting excellence.

Loved watching Gibson and he's a legitimate Hall of Famer but let's not get carried away.
