I'm 67- started w/Blitzkrieg back in '69. Anzio was the first wargame I ever owned. Speaking of owning, I had my own game store from 2000-2003. Been out of touch w/the hobby since. I feel like Rip van Winkle. That'll do for a start. If you wanna know more, just ask. I'll either answer you or tell you it's none of your damn business.

Btw, today's the 80th anniversary of the start of Operation Shingle. Worth pausing for a moment to recognize all those military personnel on both sides, not to mention the Italian civilians, who were killed or wounded during the course of the Italian campaign.

Welcome!  I'm especially pleased to see someone who started in the hobby before I did, so I'm no longer the silverback on the forum   (Avalon Hill's Kriegspiel, 1972 in case anyone wants to know)

Welcome aboard!  I started with Panzerblitz back in 1978.

Welcome!  My first wargame was also Blitzkreig (my older brother bought it and needed an opponent).  It was around 1966 (was in 5th grade).

What are these "dice" you speak of?  Is it some kind of app for my phone or can I use them on my desktop.

And welcome aboard.  Don't be a stranger.

My soul is older than all of you!

How old was Bismark when he passed? I always pictured him being fairly ancient. I raise a glass to all of our AARP card carrying members, past, present and future.

I think Bismarck was on either side of 80.

Since he's older than apps, I'm guessing you use them on your desktop.

First of all, hail and well met, greetings and felicitations, and howdy y'all. Seriously, thank you all for the warm welcome, and for the immediate demonstration, in only a handful of replies, that the members of this forum are more intelligent than the typical ursine.

Specifically-- Tripoli: we're not old, we're well-matured (well, sort of). I do like the silverback image, though. Ten-fifteen years ago I used to use "silvertip" online, since at that point my beard had-- well, a silvertip. The rest was still brown. Today I'm more of a silverface. W8aminute, I would venture to guess that a lot of wargamers around that time started with PanzerBlitz. I was married in 1978. And Gusington, you were born the year I graduated from BVHS. Bobarossa, by my calculations you and I must be roughly the same age. And SirAndrew, dice are these fuzzy cubes that once dangled from the rear-view mirrors of cars. The term also refers to small plastic or cellulose cubes that are sometimes flung across the room and bounced off the far wall by frustrated players. Jarhead, I like your toast! If we're lucky we'll all make it to that age where AARP membership makes a lot of sense. Jason, alas! I am older than desktops or apps. I'm older than the PC. In my youth we had to set up stone circles to do complex calculations.

Finally, on the Bismark issue: I think the top half of the Iron Chancellor was over 80, whilst the bottom half was under that age. Ok so that was a stretch. And I better stop there.

Again, thank you all for the warm welcome! I look forward to becoming more involved in the fullness of time, but I plan to (try to) watch and learn before I start putting in my two cents. I have a pile of pennies that reaches the ceiling, though, so it may be hard to stick to that plan.

Hell Gusington I don't even know what a bot is. 🤔 And to all who may have jumped to a conclusion, I can too write a short post.

Yr very not-bot,
