I've lost AARs over the years with websites going dark and other problems.
I've decided to put my AARs on my game blog and link to them.
This AAR is the US Pacific Campaign from Order of Battle WW2. This campaign starts with Pearl Harbor. You then have two additional beat-downs in the Phillipines. Then you start with the US Navy in action.
The US Pacific Campaign is far different from most simulations of WW2. You have a good ground simulation and a good simulation of carrier combat. Some scenarios are all taking place on the ground and the air. Others are completely naval actions with the inclusion of the carrier flight wings.
This AAR is played on the Lietenant level. I have played this campaign to its conclusion at least 4 times before starting this AAR. I'm also writing a detailed strategy guide.
Scenario 1 - Pearl Harbor is completed including annotated screen shots. If you are interested in reading it, you can follow the link to my game blog.

Ah, those new white trace-marks are working well! How are you doing them?
Wait, those are just the plots from the game before you execute, aren't they? ::) Good use of them if so! :bd:

You got it right. The white marks are the plot trace before moving. I just took the screenshot then to illustrate what I was doing.

Nope, the next scenario is Bataan. You are just going to have to curb your death march desires for a while.
So the Bataan Death March is after Bataan not before it? Awww.... ::)
Part 1 of Scenario 3: Bataan is posted
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/01/18/bataan-scenario-3-us-navy-campaign/
QuoteThe brave deaths of the Gunny and "Lt. Idiot" in the previous holding action served the greater good. McArthur bestirred himself to speak with all inexperienced Lieutenants and their Gunnys before the battle started. McArthur ordered the Lieutenants to stay behind the river lines and shoot up Japs attempting to cross. He then ordered the Gunnys to shoot in the leg any Lt failing to follow orders and counter-attacked North of any river line. The assembled Gunny's gave a loud "Yes Sir General McArthur!" After McArthur left the Gunny's started bragging about their marksmanship badges and taking bets on who would bag the first Lt of the upcoming battle.
Lt. Newbie told Lt. Wet Behind the Ears that the only time he had seen his Gunny happier was when the Gunny found a fifth of unopened Scotch and shared it with a "fun time girl."
Any ignorant fools who are not reading Airboy's AAR, are missing this. :coolsmiley: :smitten:

I'm going to take a break from this AAR for a bit. The last Bataan post made me depressed and brought tears to my eyes. I had not thought about a couple of WW2 vets I knew growing up in several years - including a Wake Island vet. :-[
I'm going to write up my visit to the Kansas City Toy Museum, my review of Pillars of Eternity 2, etc..... for a couple of days to let my sadness abate.
PS - Jason, don't blame yourself for your earlier comments. They served a good purpose to remind all of us of the sacrifices made by allied troops in the Pacific during 1941-1942 to slow the Jap advance. :notworthy:
Thanks; that was indeed the purpose, though the humor was grim. :notworthy: :'(
QuoteGrizzled Captain Sam Houston from Texas set up the ambush with help from veteran noncoms.
Tennessee Volunteer!! "Don't go up there, sir, it's a trap! There's
two of them!"
My grand-uncle John Reed didn't want to talk about his career as a pilot for a B-17 over Europe either. We only ever got a few things out of him. The Me-262 jets were essentially omnipotent against bomber flights, and scared him more than anything else: their only weakness was that they only had enough fuel for one or two passes. He was in the camp of, had Hitler deployed them as interceptors instead of insisting they be used as strike bombers, the western front might have gone quite differently.
The Raid on the Gilbert and Marshall Islands - part 1 is now up:

Gilbert & Marshall Islands Raid AAR is complete.

Nice write-up Admiral Airboy. Congrats on the Win and keep 'em coming. O0
That was indeed great! :bd:
First part of the Coral Sea scenario is up.
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/02/21/coral-sea-us-campaign-order-of-battle-ww2-scenario-5/
This is just a pain to illustrate. The map is huge. Your forces are split up and cannot support each other. When you spot something without a positive ID, it does not show up on the main situation map. Last, the strategy is complex due to the difficult victory conditions.
This one is going to be slow to post. The writeup is very hard to do. I'm also going to ConOoga Thursday-Sunday and then MACE West Thursday-Monday the following week.
This is probably the single hardest AAR scenario to write up I've ever attempted.
Keep forgetting I've got Order of Battle and a slew of Pacific related modules - thanks for the reminder and am loving the AARs!
This looks like a tough fight ahead. Better ask Panzer what he would do.
I say unto this, "Squee." :bd:

Panzer's attacks consist of "Search and Destroy." Search for the puppy's toys, grab them when he gets free, run away and shred them.
I've updated to move everything through Turn 9 on the Coral Sea Scenario:

F for that brave scout plane!
I'm really rough on scout planes and scouting destroyers.
Part 3 is up.
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/03/05/coral-sea-part-3/
I took 130+ screen shots just to remind me of what happened when I had the time to write it up. This battle was so complicated I'll probably use close to 50 screenshots.
This update takes us up to turn 13. The Jap troop ships have finally been spotted and it will be hard to sink them.
Wow, you are hugging the left map edge there!
You weren't kidding about this being a nail biter! (As was Coral Sea historically, too, among several other actions in the area.)
Looks like the 'Coral Sea' is about to turn red. Can't watch. :hide:
Coral Sea is complete.

An amazing fight, in real life and in the game: congratulations!
Congrats on the decisive victory there Airboy. :bd: Do the Japanese have anything left to fight with?
Guadalcanal Part 1 is up:
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/03/15/guadalcanal-scenario-7-order-of-battle-ww2-us-pacific-campaign/
This is a very long (50 turn) scenario. The first part of Guadalcanal discusses my strategy and how the different objectives are possible at different points in the 50 turn scenario. I've played this scenario at least 8 times and my strategy works well - at least at this difficulty level.
Guadalcanal Part 2 is up:

Coming along nicely there Airboy. O0
Guadalcanal Part 3 is Up.
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/03/19/guadalcanal-part-3/
The Japs launched a massive attack. If the Marines defeat the attack, the rest of the ground combat will be mopping up.
Hell-of-a defensive stand Airboy. Leonidas would be proud. O0
Continues to be as amazing as the real campaign! O0
Guadalcanal Part 4 is up:
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/03/20/guadalcanal-part-4/
This is the end of major land combat. The big naval battle at end game remains.
After 67 edited screenshots and nine pages of text, the Battle of Guadalcanal has finished.
There was a titanic conflict between two huge Japanese surface fleets, US Marine Air Corps, and the US Navy.
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/03/21/guadalcanal-part-5-a-huge-naval-battle-conclusion/
Like reality, this scenario was a long, huge battle of attrition the Japs lost.
Admiral Yamamoto, zorched after all by the sleeping radioactive giant he awakened and filled with an enduring fury.
Press F to pay respects.
Congrats on the victory Airboy. I bet the Emperor is pissing himself now.
Just wanted to swing by and say that I've enjoyed reading through your AARs. You do a great job of balancing text and pictures, having just enough of each without overdoing it one way or the other. That's something I personally struggle with in AARs. Its always a nice added bonus to see someone play who knows what they're doing too! Both in regards to game mechanics as well as period appropriate tactics. I'm also a sucker for naval combat on this scale. Great stuff, and congrats on your win at Guadalcanal!
Thanks for your kind comments. I have all of the screen shots for New Georgia the next scenario in the lineup. I've finished writing up about 25% of the scenario.
Life in a mostly good way has intervened. I'm hoping to get New Georgia up in the next 7 days along with a number of other things on my game blog.

On a happier note, there are only three scenarios left in this campaign! :)
Really enjoying this AAR. The New Georgia write ups were particularly fun to read through. Great scenario that really gave you a lot of freedom in how you tackled it. Its always nice to see a plan well executed and succeed. I'm starting the Philippine Sea write ups now. Great stuff!

Looks like the Army formerly known as, 'Japs' are getting a good beat-down Airboy. ConJAPS on a great campaign so far.

A shocking revelation was made about General Wrigley's forced retirement by Pentagon enemies.
Part 1 of Scenario 11: Okinawa
Below is a link to my strategy and the results of the first three turns. I plan to finish this scenario and the invasion of Japan (the last scenario in this campaign) before the end of the year.
https://averysgameblog.wordpress.com/2019/10/15/order-of-battle-ww2-us-navy-campaign-scenario-11-okinawa/
I did not update the game blog for three months for all sorts of reasons. This is a hobby and not a job. My wife and I went on a two week transatlantic cruise. But most importantly my wife suddenly went 100% deaf in one ear and had vertigo for several days. The hearing loss is permanent and nothing can be done. This is a mystery to medical science.
Because of my extensive training and knowledge of statistics including medical statistics, I read the summary literature on her problem. She got the right treatment very fast. But this problem is one of the hardest to set up a medical study for that I've ever seen - a thought shared by three different physicians including two specialists.
She will never be able to tell the direction of sound again. She has great difficulty understanding people talking if there is much background noise. Our days of going to concerts is over and she needs to avoid anything that can damage her good ear so she will not be pulling clays for me shooting shotguns any longer.
Just one of those things that happens as people get older and there are a lot of things that could be worse.

I'm sorry about your wife's hearing loss. But you are right, such incidents can also make you grateful for your many blessings.
Loved your AAR Avery and I too am so sorry to learn of your wife's diagnosis. You certainly couldn't have gotten on it any earlier. Maybe somehow Medical Science can learn from her loss and advance the fight to prevent/cure this in the future. My own wife suffers from a buzzing sound in one ear which began after she dove into our pool to impress the grandkids. She felt something in her inner ear and when she came back up, it's been there ever since. Doctors can't do anything to fix it so she suffers. Like you say, part of getting old I guess. I told her it was God's way of sparing her from having to listening me all the time.
Goodness; sorry for the Mrs. there Airboy.
