I was (and still am) a fan of the Chick-Fil-A Spicy Chicken Deluxe :notworthy:. I always (well not always, but sometimes) wondered why Popeyes never had a chicken sandwich. So when they introduced one last month, I had to go try it. I managed to get 3 (I think) of the Spicy version over a 3-4 week period before they ran out >:(. I probably need to eat a few dozen more :D to see if it can knock Chick-Fil-A off my personal favorite list.
So, which one is your favorite? Popeyes, Chick-Fil-A, or some other local/chain?
The new Popeyes sandwich has been completely sold out everywhere I've gone to in the Bay Area ever since it was announced, so I'm of the impression that it's being artificially hyped up. They already had a po boy sandwich for years, how much different and better can the new one really be?
Chick-Fil-A is still the king of fast-food chicken sandos IMO.
Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich is my favourite. The only one that I've found that is actually spicy.
Wait... do you guys have Wendy's down there?
Plenty of them there Wendy's down here in Nuevo Inglaterra.
Note to self: try the Popeye's chicken sandwich asap... (I keep forgetting it's there, and I'm not near one usually.)
Chik's chicken is great, no doubt, but Pop's for me is better. Also, their biscuits are epic, whereas Fil-A has...... soggy waffle fries. :buck2:
Then again, CFA has their lemonade (and related products, like cheesecake)! :bd:
But Pop has Po Boys, including crawfish in season (usually November).
....it's probably just as well that I don't live near anything other than a Subway with a Pizza Pro tacked on. That's more than enough for me. :hide:
Went off the keto diet today to try out Popeye's. There's only one in the greater Vancouver area but it is reasonably close to my place. I suspect because it's in Canuckistan but the menu was limited and the new sandwich was not available. What they did have was pretty much bog standard fast food. Breaded chicken meat that was stringy and thin. Was not impressed at all.
How long've you been on the keto diet SDR? Any notable results yet?
Not a sammich but my personal favorite was Wendy's spicy chicken nuggets.
Wendy's spicy chicken sammich is also good but they put schtuff on it (mayo, lettuce, tomato)
Haven't tried the Popeyes yet.
Chik-Fil-A for me though I have not tried Popeyes. Wendy's is good too and I hear that KFC has a good chicken sandwich as well. I like my fried chicken on a plate, un-covered by bread, with a bone in it like God intended it to be. :dreamer:
You can get bone-in chicken at Popeyes.
I don't think Popeyes does the po boy anymore. It was replaced by the new sando :(

Year and a half with breaks thrown in every 6-8 weeks. Lost 45 lbs in 3 months and have been stable since.

It's pretty much a paid KFC ad. Actually literally, KFC is behind it. It's at least free to play!

My keto achilles heel is IPA. :(
Roughly how many calories a day have you been averaging?

I hear he has Extra Crunchy Thighs. ::)
The Popeyes chicken sandwich is back? I truly was not expecting it to reappear like this (https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/popeyes-chicken-sandwich-halloween-costume-yandy) :o.
:DD YUM! :bd:

Congratulations!
They have a beyond burger costume, too. For some reason. https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/plant-based-beyond-burger-halloween-costume-yandy
.......wait.
Wait, the bottom part of the chicken sandwich costume reads "sold out".
That....... that has some unfortunate implications...!?!?
Man the craze about Popeyes is getting out of hand. This guy/ex-Popeye's employee is headed to jail for a long stretch.
https://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/popeyes-woman-body-slammed
Maybe that sandwich is indeed tasty enough to get body slammed for.
I know a guy that can get you all the Popeye's Chicken Sandwiches you want. He operates behind an abandoned Winn-Dixie, you pull-up to the trash can in front, drop your money wrapped inside a paper bag into it, then pull around behind the store with your headlights turned off. And whatever you do, stay in your car-- he will come to you. You OK with that? :buck2:
Chicken Sandwich Wars re-ignited?? A Wendys freebie...
Quote
From Oct. 26 through Nov. 8, Wendy's fans can get their hands on a FREE Classic Chicken Sandwich with any purchase made through the mobile app OR in-restaurant," Wendy's said in a statement to TODAY Food.
"To make this promotion as juicy as the sandwich itself, Wendy's is refreshing the offer each week — that means fans have the chance grab TWO free Classic Chicken Sandwiches before this deal ends."
Wendy's announced last week the sandwich, which sells for $4.99, was coming to menus in its restaurants.

I'm OK with that! Thanks for the heads-up Steve. O0
IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT SINCE THE LAST WAR, A WENDYS OPENED UP LESS THAN THIRTY MINUTES AWAY FROM ME! :D :D :D
...not that a forty-minute round trip to eat at Wendys seems like a winning proposition. But we do pass by it with some frequency, including at meal time, so I'll keep this in mind. O0
(Cue a memory of one of my urbanite friends snorfing about people in the country complaining about having to drive 45 minutes to go to the movie theater or eat out. ;) )
And we have a new entry into the CSWs...Taco Bell. That actually looks...good. +1 for spicy :coolsmiley: Not sure my heart/veins will like it, but pretty sure the stomach will.

I'm always very suspicious of fried (or breaded) chicken at non-chicken-specializing restaurants.
From where I am sitting right now, the above pic looks delicious.
I can't do Jalapenos. Not even little, cute friendly ones. They smile at me on the plate then turn into raging volcanoes once inside. :hide: Killer-penos might be more accurate.

Well said! :notworthy:
I do like a good spicy chicken sammich.
We've been trying to go to Nashville for vacation twice now and both times didn't work out. I don't give an f about the music, I'm all about the eats. Hattie B's is on my "must go" list.
Our local Publix has excellent Spicy Chicken Wings, nice and crispy, juicy, and not terribly expensive. The problem is they're SO spicy they kill my guts. No sauce on them but some kind of spicy pepper or something in the breading. They're hot while you're eating them but once inside, they become nuclear. Too bad cause I love 'em but can't eat them. :'(
^That is the saddest post I have read this morning.

I do love lots of spicy foods, but they don't necessarily like me. I use lots of Pepcid. :(
OFF-TOPIC: While it's not a sammich, these bad boys are what I hit up when I'm jonesing to sit in an ice water bucket later in the day... And I maximize the pain scale by flipping the can upside down and shaking it first to bring Dante's inferno to the top of the can.... My stomach hates and curses out my taste buds...

There's a line about hot chili-pepper nuts there somewhere. :coolsmiley:
add a stout beer to the mix and problem solved
New Player in town, Burger King's "CH-KING". $5 Gets you either Regular or Spicy. Mediocre effort in my humble opinion sad to say. :'(
Jack's introduced fried chicken last month, upon customer request (supposedly, or that's how it's being marketed) -- which I know about because a Jack's opened up about 15 minutes south of here back around January.
Mom and I tried their new fried chicken sandwich and... it was edible. Not bad, just edible. Lots of chicken meat, but white breast meat is hard to make tasty, and neither their bun nor their breading helps much. Comes standard with a couple of pickle slices, as with Chick-fil-a, which does admittedly help but it's no Chick-fil-a sandwich. I'd rather eat something else there in the future, but I do allow that it has a lot of meat for the money.
Still haven't gotten around to Wendy's new chicken sandwich, despite a new one of those opening up last year (bad timing!) about 25 minutes south of here, which I pass on a semi-regular basis -- though rarely by myself anymore, and Mom has no more interest in eating at Wendy's. Meanwhile, the local KFC on the corner, only a strong par 5 south of the new Wendy's, closed last year, so I haven't gotten their new sandwich either. The closest Popeyes is more than 45 minutes south, so still nothing from there yet either, though I'm very interested.
I used to love BK, but their food quality has been slowly dipping for a long time, and so I expect their entry in the chicken-sandwich war to be almost as tasteless as their marketing for the sandwich. ;) But I wouldn't be adverse to hearing better about it; the more good sandwiches in the world, chicken or otherwise, the better.
Are the Chicken Sandwich Wars about to be re-ignited?
Chik-fil-A launching new Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich (https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/chick-fil-a-launching-seasonal-chicken-sandwich-pimento-cheese-topping)
Finally, a war I can support and participate in.
I can say that the local Jacks has improved their chicken sandwich's taste subtly but noticably in the past two years.
I did eventually eat a Wendy's fried chicken sandwich since the last posting, and while I felt gypped more by their hideous fries neither do I ever care to try that again when I know of better options. (Arguably including Arbys across the street although I recall some decades ago when I was in college that their chicken was sawdust plank-y, so to speak.)
Arby's Beef 'n' Cheddar helped me gain about 25 pounds at my first job out of college
Still have never gotten a Popeye's chicken sandwich, despite loving their chicken. (And eating their Po Boys with other stuff on it, too, including shrimp and I think even crawfish occasionally.)
Incidentally (since the combo-store topic comes up), the Subway/PizzaPro combo here in Dyer does gangsbusters business, and the quality only suffers due to a lack of labor market: I'll often be there when only one poor worker (usually but not always one with experience at least!) has to take care of both sides at once. I've occasionally thought I should retire to help manage that store.
(I kind of live at that store. I've been going more than once a day on average for 20 years, and the staff jokes that I pay the wage for at least one person there. I have more than once been mistaken as the owner by visitors!)
I don't know about their sandwiches, but their Hot & Spicy Wings are so damned hot they'll burn a hole in the box they come in before you can them home.
