Title: Colonel Hesslar rides again - an iPad Battle of the Bulge MP AAR
Post by: W8taminute on January 18, 2013, 02:06:17 PM
Barthheart and W8taminute Human versus Human (HvH) AAR for Battle of the Bulge iPad game

Welcome all (except Barthheart) to my AAR of a game between yours truly and Barthheart.  The game is Battle of the Bulge for iPad in case you haven't guessed by now.  This AAR of the story will be from my perspective.  Barthheart will write his own AAR of our battle in a separate thread.  We have agreed not to visit each others' threads until the conclusion of our fight.

Since all of you can visit either or both of our AARs you will be able to see both sides of the story.  Please do not discuss Barthheart's strategies in this AAR nor my strategies in his AAR.

Ok now that the house rules are out of the way let's talk about the house rules in game.  There are none!  We're playing the standard full campaign with no other options or variants enabled.

My forces are the axis and will be led by Colonel Hesslar.

I know, cheesy, but this is my AAR and I'll write it the way I please thank you very much.

The first day of the battle begins with three consecutive turns played by the axis to simulate the paralysis of the allied units during the surprise attack.  Below are the results of my movement actions for all three turns:

With preparatory strikes against American positions.  First the 12 Volkgrenadiere (VG) and 3 FallSchirmjaeger (FJ) destroy the 14 Cavalry in the Losheim gap.  This will clear the way for Hesslars 1 SS Panzer located in Stadtkyll.

The next area cleared of Americans was Bleialf, just west of the critical junction at St. Vith.  The 560 VG with some help from the 116 Panzer (Pz) clear out the American 112 Infantry (Inf).

Finally the 26 VG and the 5 FJ coming out of Dasburg clear out the American 110 Inf in Clervaux.

Our objective is to have a unit that is supplied on the far side of the Meuse by the end of the game.  If Hesslar can get his men there on the 19th of December it will be an automatic victory for the axis, and this glorious war can continue on and on forever.  Bwhwahahahaah!  (If you saw the movie "Battle of the Bulge" you know where I'm coming from)

See image below for the objective location and overall view of the field of battle:

After the opening successes of the morning the next phase of the battle is to remove the now isolated American 106 Inf from Schonberg.  To do this Hesslar sends in the 150 Pz from Baasem to assist the 62 VG and the 18 VG.  It is important that Schonberg is cleared of enemy units to help facilitate the advance in the northern sector of the offensive.  The 150 Pz is lightly armed but it is felt that together with the VG units already present in Schonberg the task can be completed.  The task however, was not completed.

Although German forces did not sustain any sizable casualties the Americans held out.  Two thirds of the 106 Inf was destroyed in the attack but the survivors were able to hang on and cause delays to the attackers.  It is only a matter of time however before the Americans are cleared of this area since they have been cut off from supply.  A follow up attack will be made tomorrow, December 17th by the units allotted to the task.  Already valuable time has been wasted but the offensive must continue and will continue elsewhere.
