To whoever finds these records I pray the nightmare is over. I pray that we were triumphant and held the line against the alien aggressor. I am the Commander of the XCOM project and these files are the story of the brave and dedicated men and women of XCOM who fought the long war against the alien invasion.

Our HQ is in Nigeria, a number of member states frowned upon this decision preferring our choice to be in their home nation but the Nigerian camp has always had the best training facilities and the men stationed here run farther and faster in combat, something the Director thought was important in the coming war.

A small band of exceptional candidates had already been chosen for induction into the project and were on their way to the camp when they were diverted to an emergency in Benin City. Rookies fighting the aliens already! I am waiting for the report of first contact and will add to the log soon...............

"Take a look at that". Sgt. Wilkerson-- CMBN. His last words after spotting a German tank on the other side of a hedgerow.

Me too.  Never really been into the XCOM games, but I like geek's narrative style.  :)

"Like we need an excuse to drink to anything..." - Banzai_Cat
"I like to think of it not as an excuse but more like Pavlovian Response." - Sir Slash

"At our ages, they all look like jailbait." - mirth

"If we had lines here that would have crossed all of them. For the 1,077,986th time." - Gusington

"Government is so expensive that it should at least be entertaining." - airboy

"As long as there's bacon, everything will be all right." - Toonces

Freyland

Trying to figure out how his Nigeria-start ties in with his CMANO AAR.

thanks chaps

Our team made it, thank God. They landed at a small observatory compound on the hills over looking Benin City. Big Sky said they deployed from the lander like professionals, they swept through the surrounding grounds and closed in on the observatory. They were attacked by 10, forgive me, little grey men, I have no other way to describe them, sneaky looking horrible things with glowing internal organs. They came in squads of 3 or 4 and appeared to have some kind of discipline. Sightings of these scrawny aliens are popping up all over the news and in intelligence briefings, but todays action shows they are not to be underestimated. The team took them all down for no damage and the guy from Japan was a killing machine apparently - excellent work, although with the training, the emergency operation and the stress, theyre all a little fatigued, ill give them a few days rest if possible

The team report taking enemy fire, some kind of pistol firing 'green plasma'? The damn things explode when the aliens drop them so we havent managed to take one for research. Speaking of which, I met Dr Vahlen today, she's the chief Scientist overseeing R&D. Big Sky informs me she interrupted their comms channel to ask the boys on the ground not to be too rough with the enemy and bring her back some viable corpses for research! She interrupted again when HE grenades were used on the slimy little bastards - I'll speak to her later - she can't be disrupting operations with her spooky need to poke around in the corpses.

I should have pictures from the next op now the guys' cameras and software is working properly

Note to UCG: bring moar Javelins.  >:D

Out of curiosity, what version of XCOM are you using? The modern remake obviously (Big Sky etc.), but EU? EW? Various upgrade options within either one?
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...

Here she is - Hot!!

Sir Slash

Damn Geek. That's her. Except her hair was longer, but so was mine. She sure has aged well. Ask her if she still has the tank-tops.

No, as in I was stupidly stupid and can give no excuse other than being stupid. Should've recognized the in-narrative clue.

If you decide to augment her with Meld, don't show Slash -- his heart will explode!  :smitten:

March 2nd

More by luck than design the previous mission in Benin City yielded enough 'healthy' corpses for Dr Vahlen to proceed with her research in Xenobiology. She hopes the study of the alien corpses will provide much needed intel and also open up markets to other nations wishing to buy corpses from us - i'm not proud

In the early hours of the morning we received emergency flash traffic from Houston, the aliens are present and abducting civilians. With the previous combatants still resting I decided to hand pick another team of rookies, intel reports show light resistance and from agencies across the globe we know this threat level usually yields a presence of 7 or 8 aliens so a team of new recruits should be OK. I can only assume they'll be facing the little grey men again, 'Sectoids' Vahlen and her team are calling them. Are there other types of alien?

Shen in engineering has been in touch, his team are ready to start on a number of engineering and construction projects. I order 12 sawn off shotguns to boost the melee/short range combat power of my teams and I order an extension to the base to hold a new satellite array system, the more we can get up there the better. I also request reinforcements for the air power and in a few days a new interceptor should be in the hangar.

The team get back later in the day, no fatalities!! I didn't realise I would feel so close to these guys. In the barracks they have started pinning up kill stats and awarding a 'MVP' status to each mission. It seems the new Russian, Mariya Yakovleva excelled herself in Houston, which is great but 2 more guys came back without kills and they'll get ripped in the mess room later - ill speak to the drill instructors, get someone on the ground to keep an eye on who's taking down the bad guys in each mission and maybe spread the kills around, I want the rookies to get as much experience as possible. Bad news, Sarin, the Indian kid took a hit from a sectoid weapon, at least we know now it doesn't turn you to ash or a puddle of jelly of anything, just plane old scorch marks and burning - he's out of action for a week

A shot from the Big Sky recon camera, Mariya climbed up the side of the building, ran along the top to outflank these 2 sectoids, took one down at close range and dropped a grenade on the other one, and set fire to the side of the restaurant too - the Big Sky guys love her, even though no one can understand a word shes saying

And Mariya calls in the report whilst Rasulova from Iran, keeps watch
