Just got an email from Steam about this game that I have on my wish list. These are the same devs that previously published Expeditions: Conquistadors and Expeditions: Vikings. I played Vikings and really enjoyed it. This, of course is their most ambitious project yet and I think the turn-based gameplay will be very satisfying with this newer game and all the improvements. The game will release on January 20 and up until then you can pre-purchase it for $35.99. Full price at release will be $44.99.

Lots of videos on YouTube if you want to check it out.

Saw this the other day, it looks great:

Looks like a full release, not early access, on January 20.

I like Conquistador a lot.  I wasn't able to finish Vikings though.  I got to a point in the story where I had to fight a main character and couldn't manage to win it despite at least a dozen tries.

I'll def give Rome a whirl but not right away.

Not played any of these is it worth trying the older ones or has gameplay etc moved on a lot?

I'd recommend giving the demo a try to see if you like the tactical combat.  If you do, then the previous two games are decent.  The RPG elements and resource management aspects take a back seat to the combat portions of the games.  I'd pick them up on a sale or in a bundle.  I found the combat in Conquistador a little more interesting than in Vikings as the use of firearms adds a little more variety to the tactical possibilities.  IMO, the story and the strategic layer in Vikings are better than in Conquistador.  Conquistador's exploration system starts to feel a little too repetitive after a while.  They addressed that in Vikings but by doing so made it a bit more of an on-rails experience.  I found Vikings to be much more challenging than Conquistadors.  Some fights in Vikings are brutally hard and I had to resort to save-scumming to win.  Conversely, once I'd learned how the combat system, healing, and resource management worked in Conquistador, I rarely had any troubles winning encounters.

Well interesting, developer closing shop to join another company...says support will continue but odd news on release day

Could this be why there were big discounts at release (up to -35% with official resellers ) ?

Maybe...although the developer swears this has no impact on future DLC/expansion and support.  They said not all developers will be moving to new company.  I guess we will see if that holds true but certainly not a great message to come out on release day.....assume it might have hurt sales a bit with the uncertainity.

:o Wow...I was just thinking about the big discounts I was seeing in emails from Fanatical and Green Man on this just last night...

Really enjoying this one. I have about four hours into it. I've been given command of my own legion, have conquered Lesbos and am on my way to start the invasion of Asia Minor. It has a pretty neat legion command and battle system so it really is a unique blend of RPG, tactical combat, strategic resource management with large scale battles conducted through the use of stratagems (cards) at varying phases.

Pretty cool stuff.

^Sounds pretty cool.

Any showstopping bugs or oddities while the game is running?
