Even as late as '89, that cheesy synth sound was still around.  As much as I dislike Nirvana, I gotta give them credit for moving stuff like this and hair metal off the stage and into the backwaters.

I heartily approve of any post that includes Candy Dulfer
The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave

This was somehow the 44th best song of 1989 according to Billboard.

Not sure if we included this song in the Power Ballads Brackets that started this whole thing back in March or April, but, I am trying to avoid songs used there in any of these Decade Brackets.

John Waite singing with The Babies, or as a solo artist?  Great tunes

Neil Schon rocking with Santana, Journey, Soul Sirkus, Hardline, or HSAS?  Great tunes

put 'em together and it's subtraction by addition and you get HorribleBad MusicEnglish.

1989 also gave guitar fans one of the best and most under-rated instrumental albums of all time, High Tension Wires from Steve Morse

Exhibit A in why white guys shouldn't steal from hip hop.

At the time, that really only consisted of Kingdom Come, but they were selling big and opened the US Monsters of Rock shows, so they were on top of everyone's mind

If you want a clone that's a really bad rip-off, pull up Rhino Bucket and mix in their songs with early- and mid-80s AC/DC and see if you can tell the difference
