I like spoon fed  ;D

I don't want my gaming to be work...though even I would admit Slopey's was the height of laziness. Having said that - I still f***ed up...not realising I couldn't actually freakin get to system X with a full load!  ::)

lol, slopeys would tell you how many jumps you needed and where to jump to and from - its not really caught on yet at the elite forums but its already starting

'whaaaaaaaat - you cant switch it off'

'WOWarcraft were ok with it why arent you'

'Sux, not playing anymore'

and the reasoned response from the devs - we just want you to go out and explore, see the rich universe we built instead of flying backwards from A - B, earning 2 million a run and complaining youre bored

JudgeDredd

Whilst I will miss the ease of Slopey's (even though I apparently didn't get it!), I agree with the devs. Of course, as long as there's a way to know what you're buying and what the "likely" selling price is elsewhere (ala X universe) rather than having to travel all the way to different systems, being jumped, having to refuel and get your ship fixed to find out you actually just lost money.

This thread depresses me. I want it but I suspect my aging 6 year old rig would sputter and die trying to run it.
excactly! i couldn't handle this thread, finally gave in and bought the game...
so, my 4 years old rig sputtered trying to run this beast - before it died i uninstalled and promised to better keep away from this thread.
see - it's not working either...  ::)

great game - great thread - great excuse to buy new 'fast' machine!!  O0

cheers!

These last few posts flesh out some stuff I was thinking about.  I was kind of surprised that there wasn't some sort of master DB that would help you to know what the going rates were for various commodities in different systems.  I figured I missed something- like some sort of stock market page or something- that would refresh what was trading at posts you have already been to.  Like, when at Beagle being able to pull up a page that showed what Azeban City's commodities were trading for where you just came from.  It's good to know that such a tool doesn't exist in game and that I wasn't just missing something.

Having said that, while it's kind of annoying to have to keep your own log of what's doing in the commodities market, I can see the validity of forcing the player to go explore.  I was basically running back and forth between Azeban and Beagle over and over and it sort of felt like flying Air Hauler between Honolulu to Hilo over and over, with the weather set to clear skies.  There was no real challenge and by the end I was sort of wondering if this is all there is to it.

To that end, I can understand now why this game really needs an MMO component.  In solo mode there really is no danger traipsing between two adjacent stations and just making a slow living.  Throwing some pirates and bounty hunters in there will spice things up.

I keep forgetting this is still a beta.  With about 30 hours of gameplay now, I can definitely start to feel some of the missing features.  I look forward to seeing this get fleshed out further.  Beta 2 should really shake things up.

I play solo mode and can tell you that I wouldn't say there is NO danger. I have been "interdicted" twice by pirates in federal space. Both I eventually outran but I was close.
MMO is always more active but I prefer single. I don't like getting ambushed in a station and blown up by some 15 year old who thinks it hilarious to kill ships for no reason

+1. And the fact that the developer is giving us the option to play a fully featured solo game is EXTREMELY commendable.

I guess it will be possible to haven an MMO avatar and an solo play avatar ?
i am not sure if there will be one big  persistend universe for all (should be possible with 400 billion stars) ...or several servers

it would be cool to have a loose Grog gang  8)
where for example one eve JH and Toonces flying escort for JD's magnificent 100t hauler, while i maybe try to explore a new resource rich uncharted star system ahead  and transmit the data to the grog gang to show up later.... or whatever dynamic situations may develop because all Grogs here  will own several different ships (at least 2) for different tasks

i think its unlikely well all get on the same instance with cross ocean access - if were all friends in the game it will prioritise but theres no guarantee still

Have found a most lucrative route this evening - LHS3262, buy Consumer Tech here at 5500 a ton and take it to Wyrd who are paying 7200 a ton, then at Wyrd buy as much liquor as possible, and on the way back to LHS3262 stop at Acihault and smuggle in the liquor for 875 a tonne profit - made 55k in one journey in my Cobra III, its 5 jumps there and 5 back but theres nothing like entering a station at 200kph with the windows frosted over to avod a scan

New video from David with Beta 2 play and explanations of what is new. He explains how the universe will grow. For instance, if a player discovers gold in a system, eventually word get out and there will be a gold rush. If there are enough players there, eventually over time the system will develope including a space station.

Right now, they have been sending emails out about a civil war on Eranin. Players are free to interact with that conflict and smuggle weapons or whatever.

No doubt this will be the single greatest and most complex video game of the genre (if not for every genre)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dJzizYUEF9c

Edit: here is part of the email I got last night updating me on the Eranin situation. It discusses the players taking part. In this cases, players are smuggling liquor to the Eranin government through federal blockades

"In response to the Eranin government's call yesterday for a wider spread of its now-infamous celebration liquor, there has been much activity involving large amounts of liquor in several systems.

Over 30 Commanders have taken liquor to Opala's Romanenko Estate.  In LHS 3262, CMDR Waugh and CMDR Sophie-Beth have both been major contributors to the liquor flooding into Louis de Lacaille Prospect.  CMDR Sandmann is also doing his best to help Bolg's Moxon's Mojo star port drown its sorrows. "

I got completely lit up by the 4th guy I was fighting and he knocked me down to 21% hull, which almost negated my profits.  If you guys are killing 8000CR worth of scalps in the Sidewinder then you have my ultimate respect.

well... you know, some people are just born to be good pilots.   ;)
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Yeah, I'm definitely more of a lazy cargo guy.  Game imitates real life and all that!   :coolsmiley:
