So, I'm taking the plunge when the Steam Summer sale hits. I'm going to jump into the vast ocean called "GG:War in the West". Other than take it slow and don't take your anger out on your pet or door, any sage advice from any of you WitW/E professionals?
I've already started watching some youtube videos and bought several stress reliving devices (aka...couple bottles of scotch).
Take your time when you start and don't be afraid to start a scenario over as you learn things. Start small with the Sicily scenario and work your way up. There is a lot to learn and I'm still learning. Pick out one aspect at a time and learn it then move on. Take time to figure out how the Airborne work and then how the invasions work. Save the air for last as it is the most complex but it might be the most important in the end. Strategy Gaming Dojo has started a tutorial series on YouTube so watch those. I haven't watched them yet but if they are as good as his set on War in the East 2 then they are well worth the time. I'll watch them soon.
I recommend picking up the "Operation Torch" DLC. The "Tunisia '43" scenario is 19 turns long and in my opinion, a good place to start. No sea invasion and air combat can be safely left on auto. The scenario starts with Rommel trying to knock the Americans off the continent.
Strategy Gaming Dojo's videos are an excellent primer for this game. I've watched them myself and I don't even own the game. O0
So, GOG has this for 70% off. I can't see the Steam sale beating this? However, am I better off buying from Steam?
Do you like DRM?

Isn't DRM the work of the devil? I honestly do not now. Most of my games are on Steam, but isn't the biggest advantage of GOG is you own the game and can play offline?
^Yes, DRM-free!

Then I think it's a no brainer. Not sure the Steam sale is going to beat 70% off!

Usually the Slitherine web site will let you convert your serial number to a Steam Code. So you should be able to buy it on GOG and then move it to Steam...or not.
So in this case, you can have your cake, and eat it too.
Well, $34 for WitW with the Torch DLC was too juicy.
Now begins the long, long journey of inevitable frustration, but it I'm looking forward to this.
If memory serves, do the tutorial. I think it focuses more on invasions (Sicily), how to use the amphibious units, paratroops etc. Then I really liked the Torch expansion. Fighting off Rommel while racing the Br 8th army across North Africa to help. Great fun.
