In Dutch a 'pannenkoek' would indeed be a pancake so the Berlin pastry nomenclature anomaly comparison of a jelly donut to a pancake is suitably odd to my ears. Nevertheless, President Jack spoke those words the year I was born and I don't think that the people of Berlin were giggling when they heard him say them. They were cheering before the translators had caught up.

I kept reading that as "bikini uber alles".

And then adding "lebensraum" for some reason.

(True story: in my final semester of two years of German in college, we had a native German teacher who had grown up next door to the Rommels as a little girl, and hated the Nazis but loved Rommel which I understood completely. She also had a tendency to not teach German grammar very much, and hated the fact I was a Christian but loved the skit I designed based on a theme restaurant that only served asparagus-based food and drink. I barely passed that class after all A's on the first three; but when the time came to take the college's computer-assessment of how well we had been taught German, the computer literally ran out of questions to ask me because it couldn't decide if I was a retard or a genius at German -- eventually the NEXT CLASS AFTER MINE started to leave the room because they were finished with the test, and it was still giving me questions. When the computer ran out of questions and just kind of froze, the teacher who had been coming over every once in a while to look over my shoulder stood there a moment and then said I should go away and we would never speak of this again. I barely remember any German to amount to anything today, although there was a cute agnostic girl in that class who was really interested in me but who alas I never saw again after that semester, despite or maybe because of being warned by the teacher not to listen to me. This story seemed relevant somehow. Maybe it was therapeutic. Moving along.)
