Put a hard return at the end of each sentence
Dump the book into Excel
Run a pivot table or frequency count

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I love a hard return at the end of your sentences.
and then when you dump it on my pivot table.....

my frequency just skyrockets.

its almost as much of a good time as Gus beating my naked flesh with an oxford comma while he tells me to call him Papi.

I can see how that would work, but I'd have to figure out how to add hard returns automatically at the end of each sentence. Because dang if I'm going to do that manually.  :P (Quiet, Star.  ::) :-X)

You could use a search tool of some kind to tally up phrases in an e-copy of the book. I'd be surprised if that feature wasn't already part of some word processing suites favored by writers.

Well, I do all my composition on Word nowadays. Specifically, Word 2004 for Mac. I'm pretty sure my other author friends spit on Word, so no surprise it doesn't seem to have that function (although it has some kind of algorhythm for counting sentences. Uh, no, apparently it doesn't, must have been wishful thinking!)

PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.

Find & replace!

Find all the different punctuation marks that end sentences ./!/?
Replace with that + return
You'll also want to remove all the quotes, since they'll really screw up your counts
You may want to replace all the abbreviations like "Mr." with "Mr" just to kill any accidental returns where you don't really want them
