The Philippines are getting ready to open Subic Bay again to US ships.

It ain't just the Philippines- it's most of Southeast Asia that snacks on boiled baby duck embryos.




Apparently the Asian Diaspora in Vancouver is big into this as well, and it's not covered by existing Canadian consumer health law. I'd be interested in hearing SDR's take on his neighbors' snacking habits...

I bug my Flipper friends about balut but I've never seen it on offer here.  I don't go into a lot of Filipino grocery stores though.  The Asian supermarkets near my place all have stuff like live geoduck in tanks and the duck carcasses and pig's heads for sale in the deli areas but that's about the "oddest" stuff I've seen.  I've also brought up boshintang with my Korean co-workers but unlike the Filipinos who just laugh, the Koreans get all defensive about it.

Worst stuff I have had served to me was in Japan.  Couldn't do it.  Shirako and ika no shiokara are not food, damn it!

Looks pretty tasty TBH.
I've eaten squids many times before, and the sauce/condiments they use seem like they could be good.
