Ranger is a tactical boardgame by Omega Games that simulates Ranger patrol and combat missions.  The player starts by drawing a mission card.  He then prepares for the mission by assigning equipment, plotting the patrol route on the map and doing rehearsals.  Once inserted behind enemy lines, the game is played out by following a tactical booklet with die rolls determining random events and combat results.  Choices that the player needs to make range from type of movement formation, when to engage or disengage, how to disengage, when to call in support, to platoon / squad management.  The picture below, taken from BoardGameGeek, shows the game's components.

I had this idea of playing out the missions in ARMA 2.  Because the setting of Ranger is South America with thick jungle and swaps, I had o use ARMA 2's Chernarus map – which is Eastern European with dense forests...

An uneventful continuation of my patrol.

I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with my AI spawn script.

Brilliant idea jomni.  I'll definitely be monitoring your blog to find out what happens next.

You've given me an idea for turning either Panzerblitz or Squad Leader scenarios into ARMA2 scenarios using the WW2 mods out there.

We reached the objective and things just happened so fast.  A successful raid with no friendly casualties.

I checked the script and the AI is spawning as designed.  But I haven't met any patrols so far.  Maybe they are spawning too far away from the action.  I guess I'll move the spawn points near the center of the 1km radius instead of the edges.

My patrol ends at around 00:20.  The whole mission took 3 hours and 20 minutes. And most of it was spent walking without any contact.
