The ship could have been in a "holding pattern" waiting its turn to enter the canal.  I'm guessing ships just can't enter/leave the canal willy nilly. There must be some kind of traffic control similar to air traffic.

...still, an interesting pattern ::)

Whenever I have transited the canal, it is done in "convoys" of ships.  Everyone going south anchors off Port Said, and everyone going North anchors in the Red Sea.  At the appropriate time, the "convoys" all enter the canal.  If I recall correctly, the North-bound convoy anchors in the Great Bitter Lake to allow the southbound convoy to pass through (although I may have that backwards).  I haven't seen the video of the "rapid swings" that Silent Disapproval Robot mentions, but if it is occurring in the Red Sea, it may be the ship swinging at anchor.

from what Ive read it would seem that the ship did have pilots on board.  besides the high wind there are also reports of a sandstorm of whatever strength.  all around just a giant cluster....
Toonces - Don't ask me, I just close my eyes and take it.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Look on the bright side. The world lost one ship but the Egyptians just got a hell-of-a new bridge.  :coolsmiley:

QuoteThe quarter-mile-long container ship that's currently blocking the Suez Canal traced a distinctly phallic route in the hours before being blown off course and becoming stuck on Tuesday morning.

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

The ship was in a holding pattern (was in a zone with no anchoring allowed).

They wanted to make a four leaf clover figure but were allowed to enter the canal just before starting the fourth leaf.

Or the third, I guess.    :DD

Might want to hang on to those for a bit longer SirSlash.  While the Suez is opened back up, apparently there is a shipping container shortage that may cause another TP shortage. #:-)
