^ Oh yeah. ABC was an 80s staple.

Part of the good MTV did for me was putting songs in front of me that I otherwise wouldn't have listened to.  Doing so, I found a lot of stuff I liked.  ABC was one of them.

That's true, though early on you didn't have much in the way of choices. I remember very clearly those first few weeks when it came on and I'd watch every music video multiple times, even the awful ones.

We had just landed in Dover AFB (Delaware), late at night, rented a crappy Chevy Corsica to drive over the Philly to catch a flight to New Orleans to spend the summer with family in '87.  We'd hopped a space-A MAC flight from Rhein-Main to Dover, but still had to get the Louisiana from there.  My folks were leaving me and my brother with grandparents for the summer for an extended visit.
It was dark, I was wiped out because of how late the flight way, there was waaaaay more traffic than I'd ever seen, and waaaaaay too many radio stations to mess with - I was working the radio while dad drove b/c mom was crashed out in the back seat w/ my brother.  Theoretically, I was 'navigating' but I had no clue where the f&$% we were going, so I was playing with the radio.  The DJ had made a comment about "coming up now, the new single from ABC..." so I let it go, and that was first time I heard "When Smokey Sings"
I didn't see the video for maybe another 2 years, but I remember exactly where I was when I first heard it.

I still think fondly of the people who introduced me to music like this when I was in high school.
Discovered there is more out there than Slayer & The Ramones ...

Some more Anthrax goodness from 1987

"Why don't you listen to me when I try to talk to you
Stop thinking of yourself for just a second, fool
Shut up, shut up, I don't wanna hear your mouth
Your mother made a monster, now get the hell out of my house

Can't stand it for another day
I ain't gonna live my life this way
Cold sweat, my fists are clenching
Stomp, stomp, stomp the idiot convention

Which one of these words don't you understand
I'm caught in a mosh
Talking to you is like clapping with one hand"
