I still can't believe that EA Games hasn't ported the NHL series to PC or Nintendo Switch yet.  That being said, I'm considering getting into the console market after 25 years (my last consoles were the NES, SNES & Genesis before going PC).

Any suggestions on a console for NHL Hockey and some casual gaming while still having a PC rig ?  I'm still into wargaming so don't worry (Unity of Command II) - I just have less time to invest into it these days.

I use a Xbox controller for some non wargaming games on my PC rig (Cyberpunk, Witcher, Star Wars etc), but I'm still debating about what console to jump on.  Both PS5 & Xbox-X are short in supply at the moment (in Canada).  I've got a few friends who are mostly on PS these days.  I've been considering some used PS4 or Xbox One's, but I've got mixed feelings on the used console market.

The most affordable (and available) option seems to be the Xbox Series S over at Walmart for now. I'm mostly gaming on my PC with a Dell S3220DGF 1440 monitor these days and a GTX 1660 Super.  Xbox S seems attractive as it's as close to PC as I can get and has familiar MS environment.  EA NHL is available on either PS or Xbox but cross-platform doesn't look to be a feature yet.  The main thing I guess I'd miss out on PS is exclusives like Spiderman or Final Fantasy, would be nice though to get back into them.  On Xbox side, I'm not a Halo fan, so that's not a big draw or anything.  I've got the NHL itch for now after last years playoffs which were a blast (I was replaying the old NHL 94/96/97 roms).  Perhaps it's better to wait it out for a PS5/Xbox-X when supplies get better ?

My son is still 6.5 years, so he's not really ready for this kind of stuff yet (focusing on school, piano & soccer/hockey/swimming) and mainly plays MineCraft.  I'm sure he'd get a kick out of NHL Hockey with his dad one day, but I can entertain him with the old versions on emulators for now at least and I don't want to disrupt his focus (for now).

It's surprising that EA Games hasn't released a port for these platforms yet. However, I can provide some suggestions to help you decide on a console for NHL Hockey and casual gaming while still having your PC rig.

Considering your preferences and the current availability of consoles in Canada, the Xbox Series S appears to be a suitable option for you. It offers an affordable price point and shares a familiar environment with your PC due to the Microsoft ecosystem. Additionally, the Xbox Series S is capable of delivering a quality gaming experience on your Dell S3220DGF 1440 monitor.

While both the PS5 and Xbox Series X may be in short supply at the moment, you could consider waiting until supplies improve if you have the patience. This would allow you to have access to the latest generation consoles and potentially experience exclusive games like Spiderman or Final Fantasy on the PlayStation platform.
