For those who are into that sorta thing, it is coming later this year!

The Warhammer titles must have made millions for them to go straight to a third title.

What do you mean?

Honestly I could not get into the Warhammer I and II games...but this announcement includes Kislev, Cathay and (more obliquely) Nippon...all of which moisten my loins.

I mean, the series must have been extremely successful financially in order for them to make a third title, particularly before exploring any new historical material.

I think the Warhammer series is CA's most successful series of games to date by far. In between Warhammer titles, they did have Thrones of Britannia and Three Kingdoms. Thrones of Britannia was pretty much a bust, but Three Kingdoms has been their most successful historical title to date. They are doing rather well for themselves all in all :)

Allegedly there is a big historical reveal in the works from CA for some time this year.

Oh wow. Interesting. I'm guessing Kislev at last? Judging by the Winged Hussar like troops?

Hilarity ensues on Steam. You can't even get to the page to see the pre-order price  ::). I'm guessing it's like the others 59.99.

Interesting- Kislev and Cathay are the new factions.

^Yes, two very interesting factions (for me as a WH noob, at least). I'm sure that Three Kingdoms had a lot to do with the development of 'Cathay.'

The FAQ does agree it's Kislev, by the way, which I find slightly amusing since I've been trading a lot with them in Warhammer: Corsair recently. ;) (And have helped them negotiate something like an alliance with the Empire.)

There will be an early 'free' DLC of an unknown faction (perhaps this is "Nippon"?) for pre-orders, which will last until a week after release later this year.

The FAQ also reveals that Creative Assembly fully plans to integrate all three maps into a giant campaign (like Mortal Empires) sooner or later, as a free add-on if you own all the games. (I suspect it'll also be a paid DLC, of course.) However, they aren't focusing on that right now.

If the Free-LC is Nippon then I will pre-order.

Understandable. ;) We'll learn later before release.

I am also extremely psyched for Cathay and Kislev. This TWarhammer is by far the most interesting looking one for me.

I played the first two versions in sales and I never really got the attraction to the Warhammer stuff. It just doesn't do it for me, and I fairly quickly uninstalled them.

I'd prefer an ACW (unless Grand Tactician cleans itself up) or a new Medieval title, but I recognize the numbers don't compare. A Medieval TW title with CK3's map and character systems would be pretty awesome.

Yeah, I picked up TW: WH I after not having played the game system since the original R:TW.  I invested a ton of time into it, but never really found it that satisfying.  I suspect that the TW system has developed such a sophisticated user base that 2/3 of the mechanics in the game are just not intuitive to a noob like me.

The scarcity of Heroes and the damnable cat and mouse games I had to play on the campaign map if anybody ever got into my Kingdom drove me nuts.  I didn't find the victories or the defeats terribly explicable.

Ohh! I didn't know about this either!

I, too, have bought TW:W1 and 2 on sales, tried to play a campaign several times, but it feels so busy. You're getting besieged from all sides, yet are limited to how many armies you can field. I find it a confusing mess tbh.
I know war is Eternal in Warhammer, but it just confused me in the TW setting. Admittedly the game being so busy makes me have little patience with it.

Three Kingdoms also does this to me. It's so busy.

The classic titles are less like that. At least I feel that way. I'd like me some Medieval TW action and that mod might be a great suggestion! Thanks.

That is what you call balance rather than any attempt at gameplay mechanics that make sense and I am not a fan either. You should be able to raise armies if you have enough food and supply lines. But no real supply line mechanics were ever introduced. Nor living off the land mechanics. I think there was one living off the land mechanic which basically just meant destroy the land.

I see now available for preload on Gamepass...caught me a little by surprise that it requires 113GB of storage space......

Christ I really have no idea why some of these games are so bloated.

I mean 113 GB, really?

Red dead 2 was around 100GB but that I could see. A strategy title not so much.

One thing to consider when purchasing, as I was thinking of using on Game Pass.  I have seen people mention that at some point version 3 will hook up with your version 2 content and people seem to indicate you would need to have everything on the same platform.  My previous stuff is all on Steam, which implies I wouldn't be able to use it.  Just something to research and consider (if true) on where you purchase, if you decide to buy the game.

Played a few hours. It's ok. Some of the menus were unnecessarily changed, causing confusion. Many were the same, aiding in continuity from II to III. A few new concepts, poorly explained, but simple enough to overcome. My biggest problem is that the graphics are noticeably "softer" and less crisp than in II. Using the same settings as I have in II, I have not seen the big frame rate hit that some folks have reported in III, but I am playing at 1980x1200. Looks like it will be a solid game with the usual teething problems. I have not played any city battles, which some have complained about.

TW Warhammer III is going to have to wait a bit. I want to finish an awesome game of Shadow Empire. I just started deploying heavy tanks with poly armor and beam weapons. AND I am researching fusion. I can't walk from that yet.

I am a little confused. It's already the third entry since 2016? Does it make sense? Must be very successful.

Yep, third version....some say it's their most successful series.  Kind of cool how it will hook into the other older versions so you can use those units and such at some point in the future, assuming you bought all the versions from the same place.  Haven't had much time to play yet....certainly enjoy the historical titles more myself, but kind of a nice diversion from the normal for me.

I only have 60 hours invested in the Warhammer games...with 1000s in the older historical titles. I dithered around with Warhammer III a little last night. I will try a campaign soon, not sure which faction...trying to narrow it down to the most bizarre, demonic one. After a while the whole demons/blood/horror thing gets to be a little over the top for me.

I have over 1000 hours in Warhammer 2. Probably more than that in MTW2 and Rome 1 (pre-steam). I probably spent more time than that on SSI and Matrix titles. Retirement...what can I say? I think Shadow Empire may become the King of them all. As far as the Warhammer titles go, the battles are just too much fun. Watching a dragon smash-land in a formation of swordsman is just great. I just wish the mechanics were up to the level they set in MTW2 with regard to formation control, etc.
