Title: Napoleonic Battles
Post by: Angiel on May 23, 2021, 04:49:40 AM
Hi

This is a game about battles in the Napoleonic era from 1795 until 1815 where the player plays the part of the French (at least for now).

It includes some Napoleonic battles, Arcole, Marengo, Loano, Mont-Saint-Jean already playable, plus others scenarios in development (Rivoli, Lodi, Talavera etc.), played in a hexagonal turn-based map.

There are different formations: line, square, general order and troops: line infantry, guard, cavalry, artillery. Victory is achieved by accumulating points, earned for eliminating units + conquering objectives, furthermore

there is the possibility of an automatic victory or a draw. There are 3 difficulty levels (easy, normal, hard).

The game is enough simple and fast. More scenarios will be added soon, including a scenario with a random arrangement of the terrain, objectives and the two armies

There will be a version for windows 10 and probably for Linux.

Your suggestions and advice are welcome.

I prefer the lighter map. More contrast makes the units easier to see. I was wondering what the scale is.

+1

If you include a map and unit editor...that would be something.  Features similar to SSI's old Battles of Napoleon would be really welcome.

These are the 3 types of infantry formation in play.

The formations had me slightly confused.  I was expecting the rifles to be pointing in the direction of travel/enemy but they are actually on the shoulder.  I thought the square formation had them pointing guns at each other until I realized that!

Concur... they are a little confusing

You might try something like the old AH Gettysburg ('77) advanced game counters.  Adding square and other formations. See link.

Of course then you would not get to do the nifty color scheme on the shako pom poms....

Looks interesting, but hard to comment on without more information on the combat calculations you are using.

Now you can choose between counters and figures.
An example of some French counters:

Will there be an editor that the player can use to create his own scenarios?

At the moment the scenario editor is not present. We will see later depending on the success of the game.
