Well my fledgling human empire just got crushed by rampaging pirate hordes.  Note to self: I need to build multiple fleets.

I really need to get around to trying a Shadows-era game.  I've heard it's pretty fun/interesting starting with just your home planet and slowly colonizing your home star system while fending off the pirates (or at least trying to... ;D ).

I've had to tone down the pirates a lot.  They are just too overwhelming if you haven't played with them in a few dozen previous games.

Holy crap, you ain't kidding! 

I started a Shadows-era game yesterday as the Humans...and got royally murdered by two different pirate factions (both of whom had been harassing me since pretty much the beginning).  It was like a college football draft pick finding out what playing in the NFL is really like...  :o
