It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

+8000 conscripts. such a joke.

The French Army recruits 16 000 more volunteers this year. And at least it is able to do something productive with.

The Russian have a mobile force of 30-35 000 professional soldiers fully equipped with Mi28, Mi24VP and armored vehicules. The Spetnatz and the Morskaiya piechota are able to wage very violents battles if they have a chance to deploy. And freaking state of the art subs. What the f**k they believe they will achieve with 8000 conscripts?

Sir Slash

Seems that maybe the same thing the Soviets said about Finland back in '39.  :coolsmiley:

Well, France has six times the population of Sweden, but I agree we could need more. We rely more on high tech equipment than man power. Granted, we would never ever be able to withstand a Russian invasion, but we could make them bleed significally if they try to take the island Gotland which would be a priority of theirs.

The required draft is on top of their volunteer force.  I don't know the size of Sweden's standing army.

^In 2013 it was around 16,000 regulars, its lowest level of troops ever. This year it had planned to bring its numbers up to 50,000 but I do not know if it has reached that level yet. Conscription was gone from 2010-2017.

Conscription achieves a start. A start isn't all you need, but you do need the start. Practice running those through the process, do more next time, get better do more, etc.

True, although the Soviets did win. Barely -- but enough to force a bunch of other border nations to re-evaluate their own chances after the Red Army showed they didn't care how much they had to bleed to get through impossible conditions to crack a defensive line which all military experts in the world had deemed impossible. And I'm not sure the Swedes have a modern-updated Slavic defense zone to work with (yet). Unless that's "Finland".  :coolsmiley:

Russia is not Soviet union

In 1939, Russia was known as the Soviet Socialist Republics or more commonly the Soviet Union.

They both have/had a lot of resources, and relatively high-tech ones for the time, plus comparable manpower, to throw at trying to overrun those nations, if they want. That's the relevant comparison.

They also both don't have, or had, much experience yet trying to punch through a slavic defense corridor. Although, the Soviets did have recent experience, including since before becoming Soviets, creating and maintaining defense corridors with modern versions of classic defensive lines (their most recent experience being the creation of the Stalin Line, which ironically they were in the process of blowing up at that time) -- so they might be ahead of modern Russia on that, I'm not sure.

just what the fuck are you smoking?
russian tanks are trash, they can barely afford to fly any aviation assets and those state of the art subs are either catching fire, sinking, or blowing up and then sinking.  maybe you would like to talk about their carrier (single) that cant leave port without 2 ocean going tugs.
what other propaganda bullshit would you like to bring up?
