‘100-year floods’ may happen every three to 20 years

Today, a "100-year storm" means a surge flood of about two meters, on average, in New York. Roughly every 500 years, the region experiences towering, three-meter-high surge floods. Both scenarios, Lin notes, would easily top Manhattan's seawalls, which stand 1.5 meters high.

But with added greenhouse gas emissions, the models found that a two-meter surge flood would instead occur once every three to 20 years; a three-meter flood would occur every 25 to 240 years.

"The highest [surge flood] was 3.2 meters, and this happened in 1821," Lin says. "That's the highest water level observed in New York City's history, which is like a present 500-year event."

Star will be building walls around Florida. Where is that biotch, he vanished after we talked about making a bar & grill for Jim. Maybe he's making his own.

Did Gus get a generator?

40 and Migs will need a seawall too.

Only if it hits while I'm at work, my office overlooks the HMCS Dockyards.  If I'm at home, I'm a-okay... the house is high-up (relatively speaking).  Migsy's ok 'cause any water that chases him would fall-down a mine-shaft first.  Shellie's a different story.

Mr Bigglesworth,
Were/are you a WG forumite as well? Some folks are using new names here so I'm losing track.

Not to worry as my office is on the 7th floor and house is on a hillside well above the Bedford Basin. Worst case my wife's 2 kayaks will come in useful!  :D

My generator is indeed online. Also, my house is set out on a promontory about 600 feet above sea level. Good for floods and a good defensive position in case of a zombie apocalypse as well.

Then we're all good!

Bring it on, Nature!  :P

On the other hand we are all screwed in the event of a mega tsunami.  :o

...except for Gus who will be living on an island.  :)

Interesting. Maybe I'll get a potted palm and invite 40 down. Bring a gun or three.

Then I'd have to stop-off at Jarhead's.

And so long as the wave doesn't get much over 300 ft, I'm good at home.  At work, I'm fish food.

Commie? He's just jumping through a commie hoop, working on a false sense of security for them.

Good to know.  Still, he should take a chomp out of one of them for good measure.  :)

I wish. Haven't seen hide nor hair of him in a while. He registered on the forums, then took off.

I suspect the only thing that could possibly draw him away from us is a woman.

I would further speculate that not just one would do it.

Therefore I conclude he has fallen in love with two women, and they are equally smitten with him. Only a constant draw of a theesome could pull him away from here with any certitude.

Or someone finally travelled to Florida to do him in.  ;)

Seriously, my bet is on women or work.  Maybe both???!!!  Maybe he finally got some work in the porn industry!!  8)
