Netflix seem utterly insistent on being annoying.
On June 1st, after a long time, they finally decided to bring in the latest seasons of popular shows like The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, all the while making them available
for viewing outside the U.S.
(Up until then, in Israel we only had the first 4 seasons of Arrow, and when I visited London recently even that was missing there)
Except they "forgot" all about Season 5 of Arrow.
And the thing is, that the whole season of all the shows converge into a massive crossover midway, thus making it impossible to watch the shows they did bring (without Arrow season 5),
and not miss a lot of stuff that goes on.
I tried contacting them several times about it, hoping they'd at least give me an ETA for season 5, and each time was simply answered that Netflix is having difficulties with obtaining the license
for that season from CW (which is weird considering all the massive coverage of their latest exclusive deal with them).
And then they decided to make matters worse by instead keep adding utter crap on a daily basis.
They've been pushing crappy shows and movies down the throat, from "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" to lame Stand-Up "Comedians" like Amy Schwarma, Ansis Anzizi and whatever.
And best of all, a new "Documentary" about "Alien Abductions" called Extraordinary, that pretty much features a retarded redneck conman making a really bad attempt at
misleading people he's special (in a good way), this includes things like using a laser pointer for an "Alien Encounter" (and even note how "strange" the cats started behaving towards the floating
red dot).
Can't Netflix just pull themselves together and bring Arrow season 5 instead of all that crap no one cares about???
And if they suddenly decided that their focus should be Bollywood movies, why not, at least, bring the good/funny ones (like Krrish)???
>:(
Wouldn't be surprised if some of your issues were with the all too commonplace regional locking.
I've done a search for some movies on Netflix, in the past, which told me they were only available on Netflix's streaming service in some European countries. *sigh*
Despite some old practices needing to be killed off, such as that, I'm still happy we have streaming options to better pick & choose what we want to see. Although I still see room for expansion on Netflix, and the like. They definitely shotgun some junk out there, while likely opting out of some good ones.
It's really weird.
Were it a region-locking, then I wouldn't have had access to any of the new seasons.
Adding to that their several official responses that they had trouble acquiring the license rather than it being region-bound.
I keep wondering if Netflix is suffering from a severe case of "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand does",
The various people in charge of their operations have no idea what's going on and they end up with a mess.
For what it's worth, the crossover connections with Supergirl (there are two, one being for all four shows midseason, the other only for the Flash pretty late), are absolute nothing burgers. I mean on her show: her plot plots along all episode and then in the last 30 seconds the connection plot drops out of plot nowhere, almost literally the case for the Flash crossover.
The Arrow part of the 4-part is admittedly important, even though the crossover ends on LegoTom.
However, as far as I recall nothing happens in any of the crossover eps that makes any difference to any of their ongoing plots (unlike last year). I think Arrow jokingly calls back to the alien invasion a couple of times late in the series, simply as an ironic reference to compare with what they're dealing with now.
Arrow Season 5 is good, if rather lower key (but more personal) than previous seasons. But nothing happens in it that affects the other three shows.
Yeah but for someone like me with ODC,
it's just plain insufferable to skip episodes or content.
The TV shows crossovers inevitably draw their inspirations from the comics idea of crossover events,
that are meant to get people into purchasing other comic magazines/serieses they weren't previously interested in.
I'm close to finishing Season 2 of Daredevil and loving it. Does anyone know if the other Marvel Netflix shows are any good?
A friend's husband likes to call Jessica Jones "Trigger Warning: the Musical".
I haven't caught up on the other three shows yet, but take that for what it's worth I guess? ::)
They're nice,
The Jessica Jones is pretty good and the Luke Cage one even better.
Iron Fist is meh, but then again, it's not like Daredevil is really any good.
They all suffer from being dragged out to a full 13 ep season. Why that should be a problem in plotting, I have no idea, but it's consistent.
I thought it was silly that Netflix had 'Designated Survivor' on over in the UK, but didn't have it on here in the States.

It's a good question. You'd think shorter seasons would make it easier for the writers. I'm not sure what they'd do if they had to fill out the 20-plus episode seasons that once were the norm. :o

The Daredevil series is the best of the Netflix-Marvel ones thus far, IMO.
The others are varying degrees of alright. Often with both good bits & not-so-good ones.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were okay, in their own ways. I thought they both ran on a few too many episodes. Enjoyed Jones' story more than Cage, however. JJ just had a more interesting story, whereas LC's storyline was rather 'meh' - Cottonmouth was it's best character/actor.
I wanted Iron Fist to be good, but Netflix didn't do it justice. The whole first season was a long drawn-out origin story, of which we've already seen far too many, and it never even really got that all done. Dwelled too much & too long on that. The writing of the main character was shallow, and I didn't like some of the actor's delivery either. Once again, like Luke Cage, the best parts were the supporting cast/characters. I enjoyed all three of the Meachum family characters, and their often wishy-washy cutthroat self interests kept Iron Fist interesting. Too bad the martial arts action wasn't all that impressive either. Certainly wasn't as engrossing as some of the Daredevil scenes. I read that they didn't do much training for IF, which is sad since it should've been even more of a focus than DD's.
Nevertheless, there is a lot worse to be seen on Netflix. I enjoyed all of these enough to watch future seasons when they arrive. Everyone is looking forward to their Defenders series, but I'm especially looking forward to their upcoming Punisher one. Because Jon Bernthal fuckin rocked it in DD s2. 8) I just hope the same writing quality continues from DD s2 for him.
Yes, I'm rapidly becoming a 'Punisher Fan-Boy' and Electra can eat crackers in my bed any time she wants. :D
Still no season 5 :(
Damn you Netflix!
God damn you Netflix to hell!!!
(old Lucy deserves to watch Netflix too you know)
I noticed a lot of almost premium movies that were once a available for seemingly forever are suddenly gone :/
Netflix is really pushing its own programming. There's very little in the way of A-list films offered now.
Yeah that sucks...it used to be much better.
Agreed. I only keep it for the kids stuff.
Amazon Prime video isn't much better. They're pushing their own content too.
The Wife has Amazon Prime which s slightly better for premium content, but the AAA you still have to purchase most of the time. That said l, the prices for top movies are not bad. I bought The Hobbit - Battle of the Five Armies and Kingdom of Heaven yesterday for 13.99 each for the HD versions. Not bad.
Gosh darn it!
I'm getting restless.
Contacted Netflix yet again, and yet again got the response they still don't have the license for it at all :(
I dumped Netflix. Now we have Hulu. Basically the wife watches the home improvement shows and I watch about once every other week Americas Funniest Home Videos to laugh at other people's misery.

Love it or list it, fixer upper...basically show that share titles with her feelings toward me. :)
Eight is Enough?
Not on Hulu.
Those 'fixer-upper' shows should be BANNED. They give women false ideas of how easy it is to change the whole house around so their husbands can never find anything in it again. If you watch closely, all the people in the last scenes are made to look younger, thinner, prettier, and happier than before the make-over, not just the house. If you don't believe me, watch the show backward and see them age right before your eyes. ;D
Hulu, Vudu, Sulu, Zulu, Shmulu and all the rest are for Americans only unfortunately. :(
Murica!

My wife just installed a bamboo hardwood floor in our upstairs hallway and the stairs. A few years ago she did the back splash in the kitchen.

Season 5 of Arrow is still not on Netflix.
What did reach Netflix today though, is season 8 of Archer! O0 :coolsmiley:
Eh, same difference. >:D
And Netflix just cheerfully announced upping their rates.
Still no season 5 of Arrow though (despite upped rates and their exclusive deal with CW).

That's what you get for having Archer goodness in your queue. :P
In wonder if it should be illegal for "bait" tactics like this. There should be laws that if you get the first seaon of something you must carry through.
So time went on.
Archer season 8 came and ended.
Rick&Morty season 3 went into full swing.
The Defenders series came and went.
Prices climbed up.
And still, no season 5 of Arrow.
Honestly, if this continues I'm just going to abandon Netflix.
I already know a lot of people here who stopped using them since they raised their prices but never updated their content.
Netflix's internationally available content is very lackluster in comparison with the American one.
And yet prices are higher.

+1 I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. No way am I adding any more streaming services.
But... what about the kids?
I own pretty much all of the Star Wars and Marvel movies already so the kids can watch them anytime. Having them on Netflix was a nice bonus, but it's not a big loss. There are a few live-action Disney TV shows the kids like to watch on Netflix, but those aren't any great loss either.

Not really.. only a couple IIRC. Doctor Strange, Rogue One, and that older SW animated series (Clone Wars?).
The vast majority aren't on Netflix.
F'ing Disney. The Borg of the film industry.
There were a few others - Civil War, the first Iron Man. Not sure how many actually made it on to Netflix. I didn't pay close attention.
The old deal gave Netflix exclusive rights to stream almost everything Disney released after January 1, 2016. That's what is going to end when Disney starts its own service.
Maybe Disney's service will actually let people outside the U.S to watch those movies/shows.... here's hoping.
It might actually work out better for you in that regard. A big part of the problem with the licensing deals for Netflix are negotiating all the various regions. I'm guessing Disney will be able to stream its own content wherever it wants.
God damnit Netflix!

Another price hike coming
https://apnews.com/6072470058d1477ab913fa75ea60c458
Frack... this might be the one that causes me to ditch Netflix. I imagine their will be a lot of people dropping a couple of days after season 2 of Stranger things is released.
Since there's no penalties that I know of I think they'll start getting a lot of subscribers who drop for 8-9 months out of the year and then will sign up to catch up on all of their exclusive programming.
I've dropped my sub and re-joined several times over the past year or so. I have Amazon Prime and keep Netflix mainly for the kids.
I'm on the lowest tier Netflx plan, so this latest bump won't affect me. If they raise the rate on that tier, I'm out. The original programming is good, but nothing I can't live without.
I'm at the same point that it's more for the kids than the wife or I. And while I enjoy a lot of their original progamming it is not worth the price increases they have been implementing IMO.
I might dump it, too. I'm finding myself watching much more Amazon Prime video than Netflix in the last many months. My kids are on my account though, so it'll depend. My son, I think, gets a little Netflix viewing in during study down time.
The only thing I'm holding out for is the last season of Longmire. It's wrapped up months ago and everyone expected a Sept. release--when it didn't show on the list we thought Oct...now it's not even on that list--but Sept has been it's default release in the past. They are intentionally holding it's release for some reason...maybe to sell season 5 DVDs that released at the end of Sept but after that there's little on there I watch--mostly I watch amazon.

I've been dropping it for a couple months, then sub for one, then drop again. Rinse/repeat.
Works out alright. Especially since I don't watch it much when I
am subbed. Usually just for a very few series/titles. Which can easily be caught up during a 1 month sub & shelved again for awhile.
I expect the price hikes are partially due to those of us who practice this on-off subscription behavior.

I haven't been seeing much new shit that has enticed me to re-sub to Netflix.
Thought they might add some decent stuff in the past 6 weeks or so. Especially now that it's October, horror movie season, and last years' tempting theater releases might start showing up. But nope.. not anything really tempting. :-\
Stranger Things s2 doesn't come out until nearly the end of the month. Hopefully the

See, I have kids. I've been justifying the cost of Netflix by looking at the nagging my wife and I would receive that my kids would want the next big toy that is blasted on every commercial on terrestrial tv. That alone has been worth the cost of Netflix sub. But it's getting harder with the increases.
Oh G....F...D again!
The only reason Season 5 was brought to Netflix, is so season 6 can be withheld.
And it's now confirmed that there'll be yet another major crossover event.
God damn Netflix!

Instead of just allowing me to properly watch Season6 of Arrow, or bring in all the countless goodies they let Americans watch,
they keep adding crap no one cares about Instead.
So far, I keep seeing new stuff like stand-up sketches by Am I Schwarma and Louis Sick Sex-Offender K, and now season 2 of Bill Nye's massive ego fails to save the world.
Who even watched season 1 of that show???
Starbuck (Katee) annoyed the crap out of me in Longmire. Her acting range isn't that strong because she came across exactly as her Starbuck character. At least, to me.
Annoying man-woman with attitude who would have been fired after 10 minutes in real life?
Pretty much. I really wanted to like Longmire, and I like the main character, but she ruined it for me.

The first 3 seasons are bumpy as those were on A&E...and as mentioned the writers treated it like a common cop show---whereas the characters in the books and stories were kind of glossed over. After Netflix picked it up it centered more on the characters and had a running story with the weekly crime thrown in. Far from realistic but the characters shine. was pretty happy with the ending except what they did with Longmire's daughter...that made no sense.
Big thumbs up for Shetland, bros :)
My wife and I have watched Broadchurch, Happy Valley, Shetland, and we started to watch Wallender but didn't care for it. Of the first three, Broadchurch was pretty powerful and very well done. Happy Valley was also very good and we liked it a lot. Shetland was good and worth watching. For some reason, Wallender didn't click with us.
I am liking "Godless" a lot. It's a Western with some quirks but after a slow start it gets rolling about episode 3. Beautiful scenery and good acting including a scarily good villain by Jeff Daniels makes it a winner for me.
