something that has puzzled me for a while

(1/1)

jejo68:
so if you collect military vehicles and planes you can get them in different scales, so far so good.

if you collect in 1/48 or 1/72 your good to do dioramas combining the two, but woe to you if you collect vehicles that are 1/35 since almost all planes are in 1/32.

Why oh why is that *sob* ?

ArizonaTank:
A good question.

It has been a while since I have tinkered with models. How noticeable is the difference between 1/32 and 1/35?

jejo68:
depends on you OCD i guess.

A 1/35 figure will be almost 0.5 cm shorter.
A 1/35 Opel Blitz will be around 1.5 cm to short and 1 cm to low.

So can you make it work so the average person looking will not notice, sure I guess. But I will know.

PeteF:
It is mainly because of a decision by Tamiya a long time ago to make motorised armour in 1/35th scale. At that time scales were not so standardised and they chose it for practical reasons to fit in the motor etc. Because of their subsequent dominance of that market the scale stuck. There have been attempts to get armour to move to 1/32nd (the predominant large aircraft scale) over the years but they have been largely unsuccessful.
