Finally deciding (sort of) that it's time to go from my quite old 25" 1080p 60hz monitor to a 27" 1440p monitor. I just put my name on the notify list for an EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 ULTRA GAMING. That should work well with my i9-9900k overclocked to 5 Ghz. I currently have a RTX 2070 Super.
Once that arrives, I'm looking at this monitor: ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ 27" G-SYNC Gaming Monitor 165Hz 1440p 1ms (https://www.amazon.ca/Gaming-VG27AQ-G-SYNC-Monitor-155Hz/dp/B07WQ4FXY9/) It has G-SYNC which is definitely something I want.
I was just wondering if going from a 25" 1080p to a 27" 1440p is worth it for gaming and also for work? I sit about 28 inches away from my current monitor and expect to do the same with the 27".
I read that the font size may be a bit too small on the 27" 1440p and that I have may to use scaling feature with Windows.
I would really like to hear from anyone that has a 1440p monitor and if the move from 1080p was worth it.
Many thanks for any replies.
I made the switch this year. I don't play anything terribly graphically intensive (wargames, 4x, strategy, RPGs; no shooters or VR games). I have really enjoyed it.
After I got the larger monitor for one home, I upgraded for my second home.
My only problem is I have to read internet stuff on 125% instead of 100% for text.
A while ago I went for a 32" monitor with a refresh rate of 75hz (higher is only useful for MP shooters IMHO) and with HDR 10 that you can get today for $260. (https://www.amazon.com/LG-32QN600-B-32-Inch-Monitor-FreeSync/dp/B088YN9LBK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=LG+32QN600&qid=1609352494&sr=8-1).
No issues with the font size on the 32". Going form 1080p to 1440p will be a big improvement. 4K on this size of monitors makes non gaming applications difficult to read without using scaling.
If you don't do online shooters I would go for a bigger monitor and a lesser refresh rate.
A RTX 3080 (and even a RTX 2070) is overkill for a 1080p monitor.
I made the move from 1080 to 1440 about a year ago and have the 27" Dell S2716DG with a 2070 Super and could not be happier. It seemed like night and day to me. Some websites, I do have to zoom to 110% or 125% but it's never been a big issue. I've never once had any doubts about the upgrade.

I also upgraded to the 27" Dell S2716DG last year and it is an amazing monitor. I don't play a lot of twitch gaming, but the monitor's 144Hz refresh rate, G-sync and the picture quality make this one of the best computer investments I have made. I do sit closer than 28 inches away and can say that I see zero pixelation or image compromise. Both my wife and my daughter ask to use the monitor (via an HDMI cable connected to their laptops) when I am not using it, even though we have other same-size monitors in the house.... I highly recommend the 27" Dell S2716DG....
Many thanks for the replies. I will take all into consideration. I like my 25" 1080p monitor and the RTX 2070 Super runs 95% of games at the ultra settings, but I'll have to think more about upgrading to a 27" 1440p. The 1440p monitors I were looking at in the local stores are out of stock so I'll wait.
And who knows when I'll get to the top of the line for the EVGA 3080.
