I tried getting back into D2 some months back, but it was just not happening even with the nostalgia factor.  While D3 had a (deservedly) rough start, it blossomed into a really run game that I still binge on from time to time.

I saw that. There's also this link. I like how they're going about this. Plus you can sign up for the alpha.

^ Great link.  I love how each point has a lengthy paragraph explaining it, but then you get this brief and to-the-point "f#&! off, nerds" bit at the bottom.   :DD

Interesting. They're keeping the classic code (with tighter security) and using that the run the newfangled 3D engine and sounds, in order to ensure fidelity (a blocky puppeteer and a lifelike puppet), although it looks like they'll have to make some tweaks to area effects to account for modern screen rectangularities.

I can see some people trying to play the original graphics (swappable on the fly) in 4:3 resolutions and complaining that the hitboxes and area effects are slightly off now...  ::)

Well I guess it will not be exactly the same look as diablo2. It's funny how some stuff gets the policial correctness treatment but then other stuff is just as lude, inappropriate or just plain wrong and basically encouraged in society nowadays.

"Diablo 2 developer Matt Uelmen: ďMy only strong opinion is that it needs to Ö and not succumb to the temptation to make a censored version.Ē

It seems as though Blizzard has already succumbed. From what weíve seen so far: Andariel and the Dark Rangers have their butts covered. Amazon now has a full kilt on, hiding her thighs and side-butt. Assassinís thighs are covered. Sorceress lost her underboob, has briefs on under her skirt, and has a longer skirt. Sorry folks, but this game is looking more and more censored with each video/announcement.

Also, the Amazon looks like an old man. The Barbarian looks like a 58 year old retired wrestler with low testosterone. The Druid found a hair dresser. The Sorceress turned into a thicc latina. The Assassin turned into Shang Tsung. The Necromancer looks alright, but older. The Paladin needs to visit the Druidís hair dresser.

Say what you want, but the lack of censorship was as much a part of Diablo 2ís success as was killing demons.

For the love of Tyrael, please show off Andyís butt. Them cheeks were a wonder to look at while cutting her down."

Looks like a creative decision to me, not some external pressure forcing them to censor anything.  And let's not really pretend that some pixelated butts were really that important to the D2 experience...

Actually I am a bit of a prude. Always considered people who need pixelated nudity to be crass and deprived. But I am a little disappointed that old stuff must be changed due to new correctness or even to market to younger audiences. I am sure some D2 veterans will be disappointed by things being a little less authentic, less true to the original. The days of PC games being made for niche geeky audiences are well over I guess.

Oh, come on.  Are "niche geeky audiences" exclusively straight males?

I'm not trying to start an argument or get this moved to R&P or anything, I just don't really get how covering a pixelated butt somehow means the end of niche geeky games.

I meant exclusively made for a niche pc gaming audience. Back when diablo 2 was made (maybe I am thinking of diablo 1) pc gaming was the geek in the corners domain that the general media had veryblittle care about. Now it is front and centre, so not only do geeks need to be taken care of, but even if a game is made exclusively for the geeks, it must moreso than before, be suitable for mucb wider audiences. Even if only a tiny percentage of that wider audience are interested. However with regard to diablo specifically, times have changed and now thst it is cool to be into pc gaming and to be geeky, diablo dungeons and dragons stuff is these days very wide audienfe stuff. So remakes must get the treatment. Games must be made for less specialised audiences while perhaps still covering very niche specialised subject matter. I am sure if you go back far enough in dungeon crawler history there was a time where they were almost exclusively for geeky niche audiences and no other walks of life were considered or needed to be. Was diablo2 originally ma15 plus?

So no al_infierno. Geeky audiences in this day, right now, are no longer overwhelmingly straight males like I would say they were in the past. Now they are in fact more likely to be more diverse than most walks of life. However my perception when I was growing up may not have been your experience. But generally speaking, you would not find a girl within miles of a serious geeky PC game screen when I was a young lad. Now it's common and now the PC computer hobby in general is much less technical and easier to get into. There is a much wider audience. Plus now we have a lot of lobby groups that did not exist in the past.

Yeah, I don't mean to make it a bigger thing than it needs to be.  I dig the Conan the Barbarian artwork feel of the oldschool design, but I really don't care if they feel like updating the character design to make it more "modern" or whatever to appeal to a wider demographic.

Fair enough. I am sure when they remake Conan the movie series it will be similarly changed.
I do understand the need to make sure that female gamers do not feel objectified in this day and age. I am not trying to suggest they should not clean it up. Just that some people would prefer a full nostalgia version without anything but updated graphics. So it is like it was fresh out of the box. It's why Rome Remastered will have options to get rid of any of the new stuff you do not like for the most part. I seem to remember some rome1 hubub about naked gauls not having their doodles right back then. A mod put them back in. History as it should be. As near to the truth as possible. Options are the key.

I pre-ordered this with my blizzard balance since it's not costing me any real money.  From what I've seen, it looks great.  I just hope they change it to have individual loot.   I know some people love the thrill of trying to out-click other players, but I found it an exercise in frustration, especially when bots can exploit it.
