...and originally a Skyrim mod:

The creator put this together while writing his own historical novel set in an ancient Roman city, with the help of Philip Matyszak, an Oxford historian and ancients specialist. I've read some of his books on the ancient Greeks.
Just released but the few reviews on Steam right now are 'positive' and the online buzz is very good.
Nice find Gus....! :)
Looks very cool.
I just bought it, couldn't resist. Fired it up for a few minutes to poke around and adjust a few tech items and for a game put together by one guy it is really extremely polished.
Oooo! Neat!
I'm very tempted....

Once you've had time with it give us a mini-review of some sort. Is it a stand-alone game or do you have to up Skyrim first?
Standalone!
I could not resist it's siren song.
Is the player character locked as a woman?
I haven't had a chance to start it up yet but I think I recall reading that the player's character is customizable, like at the beginning of Skyrim. Don't quote me, though.

I read a steam review stating that the character is female and they don't tell you that until after you select a name and generate the character. Please confirm if this is true.
^I chose a male but I don't think it really has any bearing on the story. I played for about an hour tonight and the game is very text heavy, it's mostly based on dialogues and puzzles. It has a very strong Roman flavor and an equally creepy undercurrent. Some guys here may like it and some most definitely will not.

Gus...so, it's not Skyrim set in ancient Rome? Correct?
^I wish...but no. It's created with the Skyrim engine but it is a much smaller game. Excellent writing and atmosphere, though.
Played this for a couple of hours. It's very claustrophobic and creepy, to the extent that I started to not enjoy it. If players tend to feel trapped or don't like tight spaces, they may not enjoy this.
