Life imitating art, or is it art imitating life?
This movie could be absolute garbage, or it could be pretty good. Fairly well-known, if not A-list cast.
"What kind of an American are you?"
Looks interesting, and Garland has some solid work under his belt.
I wonder what the story is behind the California Texas alliance. I assume in this world, they're both seceding at the same time and working in an uneasy alliance against the United States.
Or maybe it's a dystopian future where all of Texas has been replaced with Californians.
This kind of reminds me of that Netflix movie that just came out called "Leave the World Behind".

Yeah...it makes it very hard to get a handle on the belligerent sides. Perhaps its entirely an alternate version of the country in order to purposely avoid too much resemblance to modern political lines?
I love 28 Days Later and the trailer looks alright - I'm in.
an interesting idea thats release is ill timed. it also looks like the writing and production are shit.

What do you mean by ill timed release? Should Alex Garland have waited a decade for tensions to cool over in hopes that people stop talking about a potential "civil war"?
Also, the production looks great to me from the trailer. I dunno how you can really judge the writing, but I thought the trailer did a good job communicating plot and setting details, but I can agree it did a shitty job of introducing its main characters as real people.
"What kind of an American are you?"
So much to unpack in that.
Not sure why you think it will be stinky Star with writing like that.
oh, I don't know.... enough time spent on productions where one can get a feel for these things.

its a given that media will try to make money on anything they can but this rubs me the wrong way considering the state of US civil society as it is today.
^That's exactly why is being released man.
maaan
I know, I still dont have to like it.
from the trailer it looks like it'll have Red Dawn reboot stupidity all over it.

quite a few stepped away from that civil society a long

Good writing makes up for a lot of stuff Star.... as a former producer type you would know that.... although nice bewbs makes up for a great deal too
oh I've never been the producer type. I'm that gray area creative that builds shit and runs my mouth.
what a surprise.
I have mixed feelings about this as well, it may just be a good old-fashioned Hollywood dystopian future flick.
In the long run, I don't think there will be much lasting effect from the movie. Civil war will become just another Hollywood disaster type, like meteor strikes, zombie infestations, or nuclear winter.
However, the movie could be a positive conversation starter. Getting people to really think about the full and terrible implications of an actual civil war.
Or the movie may also be perceived as slanting towards one political pole or the other. In that case, the movie disappears to an obscure streaming channel after one election cycle. Additionally, in exchange for being forever type-cast, the actors will get a safe paycheck for showing up at the political rallies of one side or the other.

I can and have had many conversations with Republicans over recent years. hell, I even used to be one of them. Can't have a conversation with a brain washed magat. meal team six from Georgia doesn't have the IQ.

Let's keep the discussion based on the movie and what I assume is the fictional world upon which it depicts.

I think it is just a movie. But I believe the date is April 12th...in theaters?

IMO, if Civil War 2 was the overarching theme, they would have got good mileage having stories from families in different states. Throw in some 3rd party involvement from Canada and Mexico... as a mechanism to move the timeline on.

Saw it today, not really a war movie as the focus is mainly on the press covering the war. Thought interesting enough but if your looking for something focused on the fighting or getting a deep understanding of why the civil war occurred, not going to get it from this movie. I won't spoil it but the cause is pretty simple.
I really want to see this but I am not going out to a theater ever again. It will appear on some streaming service soon enough.

Im about to replace a 8 year old 55" with a brand new 65" qoledhd-whatever. home systems can easily match a theater without the annoying people, stupid prices and the ability to pause what your watching to pee.
^We're speaking the same language. We got a 65" last year with a Lovesac (teehee) couch with subwoofer, satellite speakers, etc. 17 year old me could never even imagine this level of awesome.
I will never go to a theater again, in case you were wondering.
I wasnt.
our living room is small and the tv is maybe 12 feet away so its almost IMAXish.

From what I understand, that is exactly the reason for the unlikely alliance.
An article that explains the factions....again, the movie itself didn't dive very deep into explaining things, although implied ultimately all factions that succeeded had a common enemy by the end. And one could draw conclusions that the situation represents what people "think" might happen with a certain leader typie in charge.

Saw it with my wife over the weekend.
The story has some tense moments, but overall it just seems to drift. I really can't recommend it.
Maybe when it gets to streaming, and the 1000 other choices you have just don't seem to catch your interest...then you might try it.
Certainly wasn't movie of the year or must see by any stretch, but was "watchable" and had no regrets in seeing it, wife actually like it more than me. Do think it could be have been better for me if it was more focused on the war but oh well.
