Quick one right off the bat: the UI is much better than in Anglo-German War. Still not the most intuitive but once you get the hang of it you are no longer fighting it like in AGW.

It's surprising how little info I can find online about the previous games to get an idea of the new one. Maybe it's just my poor Google-Fu.

Is there a grand campaign covering the entire war in 1 scenario? If so, is that one released yet? Also, is there any kind of economic, production, or tech research aspects? Does the game cover things like the Battle of the Atlantic, Battle of Britain or is it just land operations?

I don't think that any answer you give is likely to make me not purchase at this point. Operational is my favorite scale. I'm not going to diss any Panzer Campaigns or OCS titles for lacking super high level decision making, so I don't see any reason to reject this one on that basis.

There will be a Grand campaign that covers the entire war in Europe, both fronts. It's not in this real ease but will be a free download with the other 50 remaining scenarios.
There is no diplomacy or tech tree. There are replacements but no production. I have no idea how tech advances will factor in.

There are naval units that you can do sea battles with. It's a bit abstracted in the combat but you do order your ships where to go and give individual missions.

There is actually a Battle of Britain scenario in this release. I haven't tried it yet but it will be one of the first few I try out. It has the German airforce trying to cause damage to Target units while the RAF tries to defend. Should be interesting.

But mostly its a land operational level game. Lots and lots of scenarios and a few mega campaigns. Years of game play value.

All this and I've yet to have more than a couple of hours to poke around in the files and start a few scenarios....wheeeeeeeee!  :D

I've bandied this URL around for a while now, but it will give you a hint of what is going on in WWIIE, just through really old version of the UI thats in the original Russo-German War. I think the basic gameplay/phases are the same, but with a lot of added refinement.

I think the UI has evolved over the years and the maps are delicately crafted with a lot more detail on them.

Thanks Spelk. I had seen this sometime before but had forgotten how it came out. I'm wondering why the AI Russkies played so passive, rarely moving and only attacking once or twice? Is this normal for the AI? And I see you had many options turned off. Do they affect gameplay and how? Thank you and this game is looking really good to me.

I found a tutorial that I had apparently written for AGW that shows some of how *that* game worked.  It might be interesting to have a comparison made between how it was done *then* as opposed to how it works in WWII now:

And I know that I wrote an online review of AGW but I can't seem to find it anywhere.  As I recall, I liked the game a great deal at the time.

Very cool GJK. I had AGW as well and like it too... just the UI was a beast to use.
WWIIE follows closely the same type of turn phasing except that there in now just one Land Ops phase....well sort of.
You get a Land Movement phase and a Land Combat phase, but you can still move some units in the Combat phase and units that use certain move types, ie Move no Combat etc., can't attack in the Combat phase.

If you remember how to play AGW, you can pick up WWIIE very quickly..... with an easier UI.

just keep an eye out that if your thoughts on this game show up on someone else's page elsewhere that you actually gave them permission to use your thoughts, or you rein them in

I don't recall if it was armchairgeneral or what site or whom it was but I was asked to submit a review for AGW when it first came out because I had been praising the game in the forums.

I was hoping to reinstall my copy of AGW but the backup archive that I made of the CD is corrupted and of course I can't find the original CD anywhere.  Oh well, I'll see about picking up WWII after the holidays some time.
