I just couldn't resist. My wife is absolutely going to kill me because I have no place to comfortably put this thing, but I have always bought into the philosophy that it is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
It'll be a few weeks before it gets here, but I'll be sure to provide updates, thoughts, impressions, etc.

Does it arrive assembled?
Try combining that with VR !
And good luck with your new wife  .
Quote from: Gusington on March 08, 2023, 03:03:02 PMDoes it arrive assembled?
Negative, but assembly seems fairly straight forward.

That is most certainly the plan.
'Fairly straight forward'
Post an AAR of the assembly!

No, seriously. It looks so simple that a caveman could do it.

I will thoroughly enjoy watching you build it after assembling countless things here at my house and screaming into the ether how they were less than straightforward. It looks...advanced.

Me neither! :ninjameditate:
Godspeed.
"But honey, it says on the website this is a motion simulator platform FOR BUSINESS! It's right there in the url, first thing, see?!" :magnify:
That gif only shows yaw and roll, is it going to have pitch axis too?
Quote from: em2nought on March 22, 2023, 04:14:40 PMThat gif only shows yaw and roll, is it going to have pitch axis too?
Yup. Yaw, roll and pitch. 3DOF. I may upgrade to 6DOF some day, but I just don't have the space for it. That has a bit of a bigger footprint.
Don't make me do this..

You can't take money with you when you die.
Ugh...the shipment with this has been the most frustrating process that I can ever recall.
The units, not surprisingly, ship in two separate packages. After about two days, both packages made it from Poland to the Netherlands. But then this is where things went sideways. One package left the Netherlands after a day, while the master package for some reason remained. Between March 27 and March 31, the second package made its way to the US and onto a truck for delivery while the master package was still apparently sitting in the Netherlands at the FedEx hub there. In any event, I was waiting all day to see what actually was going to arrive. Finally, the FedEx truck pulls up, the door opens and as expected the one package is there. I'm staring at it as the FedEx driver says, sorry man, I just received a notice from Customs that we cannot release the package to you. Of course, I ask him to investigate and he calls his supervisor. Finally, they find out that since the master package has not cleared US customs yet, procedure does not allow release of the second package and it has to go back to the station to await the master. So, I watch the door to the truck shut in my face and see it drive down my driveway and off into the sunset.
Of course, I had to leave the very next day for a 7-day trip out of state. The master package finally left the Netherlands, but then mysteriously was not scanned for nearly 24 hours, before arriving in Jamaica, NY (not far from its final destination), but then for reasons unknown, was sent to Newark, NJ. There is has now sat for almost two days. Meanwhile, the second package that was within my grasp, is back at the local destination distribution station, waiting for the master to arrive. Stupid. I've generally been impressed with FedEx international shipping, but this instance has been nothing short of a disaster.
In any event, first world problems, I know, but still super disappointing. Thanks for letting me complain.
Meanwhile...I'm still trying to pick out my seat for the rig.
I'm considering the following:
A JEGS GS-1 Highback
(https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/500/555/555-70241.jpg)
A JEGS Aluminum Racing Seat
(https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/500/555/555-702267_3.jpg)
A SPARCO R100
(https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/800/879/879-009014nrsky.jpg)
The seat that comes with the Next Level Racing Boeing Edition Cockpit. This would require some modification to mount, I'm told

You're supposed to put a padded insert into it. The aluminum chair is just the bucket.
If the Wife is still going to kill you. I'd pick the one you would most liked to be buried in. Go out in style. :tophat:
Almost finished with the base assembly. Once finished, I will mount the seat only, before calibrating, balancing and testing. Then I can start adding peripherals.

I spent more time looking at your library
^Me too.
Same! -- and then amusing myself with the thought of using that rig to play epic sea and American Civil War battles. :Nerd:
(Although of course if the epic sea battles were with WW2 planes that would work.)
Yeah, I bet it would make getting my ass lit-up by some AI pilot in IL-2 Stormovik much more enjoyable. Maybe even fun. :planepilot:
Seat mounted. Almost ready to test. Pray to the flight sim Gods. And more book porn for you freaks to jerk off to.

Why not both?

That'd be cute. JH, How hard is that thing to get in and out of? I'm afraid if I got in it, I'd never be able to get back out of it.

Easier than my F-16c ejection seat.
It is an honest to God miracle, but it's working.
Time to start adding peripherals and balancing.

I suspect JH has a helmet fetish
If that thing could cook, I'd marry it.
I need to pull my thoughts together, but...wow. Adding a physical component to virtual simming is something entirely new to my senses. It is definitely going to take some getting used to and it is going to take some time to learn the software and tweak the settings properly to make for the most authentic and yet comfortable motion experience.
Just as VR was a huge leap over trackIR, the DOF motion rig is another giant leap.
'One small step for JH, one giant leap for grogkind.'
Whats the over/under on how long before JH is found strapped into this thing drooling and unconscious with no pants on and Midget Youporn VR playing?
That was earlier today.
The current state of my motion rig. It is totally glorious.

Well played!
Jarhead has inspired me to make my next shot in the great Grogs simpit arms race.
I am now tracking some packages coming from Chengdu.
I should also probably think about selling off a lot of my old kit. Not sure how much use I'll have for my old Thrustmaster Cougars by this time next week.
