Title: EA wins Worst Company in America reader poll
Post by: Shelldrake on April 18, 2012, 06:33:29 AM
Interesting article from Wired on EA winning the Worst Company in America reader poll and the "used game sales are ruining the industry" debate.

EA appears to have become the "evil empire" of gaming. I remember (here we go...) when they usee to be a fairly decent outfit, but then they got that corporate line of thinking and boom - everything went all to hell.

I liked EA sports games.  But now all I play (on the 360) is shooters.

Any good (by good I mean entertaining/fun) golf or baseball games out there?

In my opinion, EA beating half the corporations on that list is just an indication of the increasing amount of loud whining coming from gamers as a whole. Sure, there are legitimate gripes to be made about the gaming industry, but things have gotten to the point of being ridiculous.

EA is hit and miss. They have ruined some franchises (i.e. Command and Conquer) while doing extremely well in others (i.e. NHL, especially after some serious price competition from 2K a few years ago).

I have heard and read reviews online stating that every sports game EA makes is utter rubbish.  Now that EA has forbidden anyone to make football or hockey games they have no incentive to make quality products.

The only thing EA got right is Battlefield 3.  It seems that they take that genre seriously because of their number one competitor and their Call of Duty franchise.

Whoever told you the NHL series has collapsed should not be trusted, because it has reached the level of outstanding. Defensemen actually play smart D, stick work and cutting off passing lanes has replaced just blindly hip checking everything in sight, positional play and puck handling are king.

I have to agree that NHL 12 is extremely well done, though I do have an issue with the extremely long load times on the PS3.

I used to love the EA NHL series back in the 90's, The first one was NHL'96,I used to put myself into the game and sim a whole season to see what my stats would be.The last NHL game I played was NHL'98 on the PS1 and I thought that one was pure gold. Playing against a mate with line changes was ultra fun.

That's what I get for believing a reviewer at Best Buy.com.  So the game is really good then?  How is the franchise mode if one is available?  I tend to enjoy playing sports games as long as there is an endless franchise mode where I play team manager year after year.

The game really is fantastic, BUT there will be a significant learning curve if you haven't played for a few years. It's 100% analog control now, with the left stick controlling your skating direction and the right one controlling your stick. So you need to move the puck around if you don't want to lose it. Once you figure it all out,a dn get used to positional play, REALLY good.

Franchise mode still exists. It still has it's oddities, but it's fun.
