Excellent, Smithers

Can't say I'm surprised. Their Netflix development arm is kicking all the ass so far. One wonders what they would have done with Agents of SHIELD... (which has been slowly and sporadically improving, to be fair).
Agents of SHIELD would likely have been a very different show on Netflix, for better or worse.
I think Netflix can afford to push the limits a little bit beyond what the networks can do. That being said I would not give a young kid blanket access to Netflix.
I would be very interested to see them develop a Punisher spin-off. I like what they've done so far with the character in Daredevil.
Nice.
Still eagerly awaiting "Iron Fist," as I'm a sucker for kung-fu action; I've still got scads of the marvel produced "Deadly Hands of Kung Fu," large-form comics from back in the 70's/ 80's so I'm totally pumped for this. :)
Punisher is my favorite superhero. Have been reading it since I was about 13. Can't wait for this.
The Punisher MAX stuff was awesome - but I sure as hell hope they don't bring back the Punisher suit from the 80's/90's where he had freaking white boots and white gloves. WTF was that about?
-off to watch the Jane Punisher stuff to celebrate-
My ex-wife used to call her divorce attorney The Punisher. I never understood why until......
Did they have white gloves and white boots (and wear them at the same time)? :P

Mine as well. Pretty much because he isn't a superhero. Just a hard drinking sociopath riding a massive wave of hate. >:D
That sounds like most of the males in my family. Oh well, 9am. Time to put on my wife beater, get my jar of sippin' vodka, then go sit on the porch and give the stink eye to neighbours.
^Then you guys and your families are my favorite superheroes. Let's all watch Punisher together when it's released and then slam folding chairs over our heads.
But first we drink!
I am fine with that.
Punish the liver!
Halfway through Season 2. Netflix may have accomplished the best adaption to TV of a Marvel superhero to date. This Matt Murdock has it nailed, not to mention my wife needs a cold shower after every show............

But then again, I'm into the superhero thing....Electra anyone??

She looks angry. And I think I like it.

Yes indeed!

I almost jumped for joy when Matt told his buddy, "I don't have to ask your permission to do this" after another (much shorter) tantrum.
Felt that should've been done in the first season, before the excessive whiny bits from Foggy & Co. The writers obviously recognized what the weakest part of the first season was and toned it down in the second. Then ramped up the ultra-violence to eleven. Excellent. O0
LOVED the Punisher on Daredevil. :dreamer: Hope this one's done half as well. But, of course, there can't just be bad guys. There HAS to be a big government conspiracy with our guys behind it. Boooo!

Oh come on. The shady government types make the best bad guys.
Yeah like Migsy, 40Cent, Breezy and myself.
Truth!
Maybe. Remember, we're shady.

Agreed.
That bad guy trope has been
so overused. #:-)
Hopefully the rest of the show isn't. If they can continue the character's intensity from Daredevil S2, I'll be happy.
Being the Punisher should be easy. Just follow DD around and kill all the bad guys he leaves laying around unconscious.
Meh, we'll see where it goes but this doesn't do it for me.
The Punisher isn't someone that has any kind of resolution or tangible target that can ever give him closure. Part of the point of his character was that his loss was random and not targeted. He could never get fulfilled vengeance for what happened to him, so he became an open ended "punisher" of what he considered evil.
The previews don't really fit much with what the Punisher is. It seems an attempt to give him more of a heroic status and put him against deep evil conspiracies that directly were the cause of his loss. It takes away some of the moral ambiguity, and it really seems to misunderstand the character of Frank the way the 2nd Season of Daredevil didn't.
If Frank ever felt like he'd gotten revenge for his family's murder, he'd eat a bullet. He's not in it for redemption.
Again, we'll see, but this series doesn't seem to have its finger on the nihilistic pulse that is what I like about the Punisher.
Just watched the first episode. If that's the taster of what's to follow, this is going to be a kick-ass series! :smitten:
It's out??? I thought there were still a few days left...

Frank executed the extra days.
Pool on how many times he gets shot this season. I say 15.

Yep - dropped onto Netflix 3am (somewhere) on Friday morning.
Watched the first two episodes. Ehhhhh. Second was better than the first, though.
They've been focusing too much on the extra characters thus far. We got a series about the Punisher, and it seems like half the screen time goes to the others, who just aren't interesting. The detective's story is the worst offender, and I cringed at some of her lines regarding backstory.
I hope the setup quickly passes, and it gets into Punisherville before long.
Because the supporting characters and their stories are --->

They need to finally get the focus on Frank and some serious anti-heroing.
Watched the first episode and liked the plot but wasn't blown-away by the dialog or the acting. Hope it's just a slow start.
I've seen 8 episodes.
They may as well have called it the Agent Medani and Micro Family show. ::)
Expected them to draw it out, as they usually do with these series, but it's as if they didn't want Frank to do Punisher things during most of it.
I keep watching to see if it will kick in to the Punisher fury & brutality, but it appears they didn't want to write such a thing. Instead we get a bad cop show interspersed with some Frank Castle The Surrogate Father. *sigh* WTF Netflix?
Any Dolph Lundgren appearances?
Yes. He plays a Russian boxer who gets beaten-up by Sly Stallone. His boxing name is "Yo Adrein".

He appears in the 5th season of Arrow as "Konstantin Kovar", an evil Russian General who wants to overthrow Putin.
(And yet none of the authorities seem even remotely bothered with him and his treason, leaving him entirely to be dealt with by
a small town Russian gang and an American playboy with a primitive bow)
Sounds great...
They think they control him. Think again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Triggly Puff showed up as a supporting character. With water wings.
They would get my undying loyalty if that happened.
Second episode's got me 'interested'. Not in Love, but not, not in Love either. This is how DD got me started though. Great NYC scenery though. O0

It was one of the best things about that season, and better than it sounds (despite the legitimate plot weaknesses listed -- although the gang wasn't small-town, it was supposed to be a major Russian mafia group. Led by a version of the Batman villain known in the comics as the KGBeast, who is Green Arrow's sometime-ally, but who amazingly is
not Lundgren's character. ;) )
The Netflix Punisher series finally got moving... somewhere in the episode double digits. :knuppel2:
They could've cut the first two-thirds of the season off, and it would've been an improvement. Needless junk. I nearly stopped watching more than once, during that time, but kept pushing.
The writers still didn't do a good job of making him an anti-hero. You could drop just about any kind of heroic character into the role. They wasted an opportunity by playing it safe. ::)
So what episode should I start at?
Go to Daredevil Season 2, Episode 1. Watch him kick DD's ass a couple of times then later mix it up with Kingpin. That should set you up for Fan-Let-Down with Punisher 1 holding some guy's hand in a cement mixer. :-[ Be a man and suffer like the rest of us.
Sounds like a man plan.
Better than a man-land plan.
I been hanging with this one mostly cause I got no place else to be and no self respect to go anywhere else. It's starting to get better and better as I go along. Some good action and a few well-placed plot twists along with a decent villain or two and I'm hooked. How do they keep doing this to me? Think they KNOW I don't have any place else to be? :o
Just watched the first episode finally and I really liked it. I say that as a lifetime fan of the comics too. Watching the 2nd one now.
Count how many bullets he takes in the whole 13 episode run. I couldn't keep up.
I'm guessing it's...a lot.
Just finished the 3rd episode where Frank agrees to partner with Micro, titled 'Kandahar.' Hard to watch, uber violent, but very well done.
Gus, if you're liking this series, you may like even better Daredevil Season 2 where Frank makes his bebut and the origin story gets going leading into the whole Micro story. They also throw in Electra for good measure. That's 3 Marvel Superheros for the price of one. Oddly enough Frank and Electra never meet up in the show-- my wife says they should, they're just alike. They do a really great job of the Punisher being almost human and likeable, then he goes off and kills a bunch of thugs and he's back to being 'Frank' again. Good stuff. :bd:
Almost finished series 2 of daredevil and really enjoyed it
But I have 2 thoughts - the first is his no kill policy, fight 20 ninjas today, fight them all again tomorrow, fight them all the day after that - stop bitching, it's your fault!
I don't know whether I'm overdosed on over exaggerated mega heroes with one punch death moves but maaaaan it takes him a lot of hits to put a guy down
Yeah Slash Daredevil is next on my list.
Just watched Punisher Episode 4: Mustang duel = moist loins!
Electra is HOT. She could put me down without even one punch. ^-^
Now I must watch.
One Love Scene with brief boobie. :-*
Finished Punisher a few minutes ago. Freaking great! Daredevil next. I may even invite The Wife to watch with me, but I've read/heard that it is ultraviolent...and The Wife may not be able to handle it.
It is violent but it is used to shock and make you feel uncomfortable, not just for violence's sake like most of us do. ;D It also has some of the best staged fight scenes anywhere. After the first two episodes if you're still onboard, you're hooked! My wife didn't like the violence either but loved the show over all.
I think The Wife would like the Punisher, it did remind me of Homeland in a lot of ways. Hmm maybe I should invite her for Daredevil...but then I would be giving up watching it ALONE in my mancave.
Watch it alone first like I did, then with her so you can watch her make faces during the scary scenes.
If your wife loved the show overall except for the violence The Wife will probably feel the same...but I give up my mancave viewing.
Daredevil is great.
I think the supporting baddies (and anti-heroes in the case of Punisher) is what really makes it good. Along with some of the grim scenes and choreography.
That whole first season episode (#3 ?), which starts in the bowling ally, was when I went from "good" to "awesome".
Right. And DD gets his ass kicked pretty good a few times in the series including a couple by Punisher. Worth seeing.
Wife and I finished the season tonight.
I'm an old school Punisher fan, dating back to the War Journal days all the way through Ennis and MAX. One of the few comics I actually read and came up with.
I saw all three of the movies, the latter two in the theater and couldn't stand any of them (though I actually liked Thomas Jane and thought his Dirty Laundry fan film was great).
I loved this series. Really knocked it out of the park. Took a lot of what I liked best about the older 90's Punisher and the grittiness of the MAX version and made a thing that's all its own. Possibly my second favorite of the Marvel TV after Daredevil.
Looking forward to Season 2.
